Maryland Natural Resources Police are investigating a fatal accident on the Elk River in Cecil County.

Twenty-one-year-old Kristy Szewczak of Philadelphia was a passenger on a personal watercraft that collided Saturday afternoon with a 42-foot powerboat near Town Point.

She died at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware.

The operator of the watercraft, 30-year-old Christopher Leight of Warminster, Pennsylvania, is in critical condition at Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

The six people aboard the boat weren't injured.

Another unfortunate accident involving a PWC. I love these vehicles but people need to learn EVERYTHING about them before they go out and use them (my opinion)

Rip:(

I had one hit me one time jumping my wake about 13 years ago. He hit the rear of the boat one foot from the rear on the side , He told the cops and the insur that I ran over him.

One day:) I even have his picture on my desk.Hes got it coming:angry-smiley-044:

This is very sad. Last weekend there was another PWC accident at the Jet Ski rental where the Florida powerboat club use to be. Another young girl was killed when her and her 2 sisters ran into a boat lift. The other sisters were in pretty bad shape as well. I think there should be more regulations when it comes to renting a PWC. I have had a lot of close calls. For some reason they tend to aim for you, whether it's to jump your wake or get a look at the boat. You can never tell which way they are going to go. Many times it's adults with small children on them. I hate to hear about these unfortunate accidents.

With very few exceptions, PWC riders are the biggest idiots I've ever seen.:chimp:

I think one of the main problems is when they get into a little
trouble they let off the throttle and dont realise they have no control. When my wife worked at Sanibel Harbour Resort
they used to rent them to guests.........cant tell you how many
accidents and lawsuits. She was still getting called to testify 2-3 years after leaving the job.

We all know once you let off it's like skimming a rock across
the water.

I heard about it Sunday but reports were sketchy and no names were mentioned. I know him too...Definitely a good guy. My prayers go out to all involved.
