Fastest Offshore Race in History !!!

Miss Geico turns up the heat on Bud Select in the Offshore Pro Series at the OPA Race in St Clair, Michigan Sunday July 29th, 2007

I am curious to know what the fans and the racers think of the Extreme Class Race this weekend.

Here we finally had the fastest offshore race boats in the world come head to head and both finishing under full power.

The heavier boat with turbine power Miss Geico vs the state of the art lighter boat with piston engines Bud Select. They both seemed evenly matched.

My question is, do you like these boats running against each other, or do you think they belong in 2 different classes ?

Extreme Class:
Should it be Cat vs Cat, Vee vs Vee or Cat vs Vee ?

Also, if anyone has other videos please post...

Extreme class should be anything goes all out racing. I would have loved to see those teams goin head to head.

It was an incredable show those 2 boats put on. It looked like they were going as fast as unlimited hydros. Got any numbers on that Sharkey? That being said I'm worried about what the turbine boats will do to the sport. The lack of noise and the fact that none of the technology applies to our boats is a turnoff to me. When the Torque v-12 came out, I thought it was a natural for offshore racing and that all the big teams would soon have them. Too bad it didn't work out. For now, I say keep the classes the same. Maybe the piston teams can use mountain motors to beat the tubines.

Lack of noise????? Aparently you've never been behind one.

No, i've never had that pleasure.:D From the shore they seem much quieter. I'm not going to stand in the way of progress though. If someone wants to come out with a faster boat, they should have a class to run it in. And da.m did they run them.:cool-smiley-011:

They were seeing a little over 185 mph on the back straight.

And as someone said, "That's Race Trim not Kilo Trim!"

They were the fastest offshore race boats I ever seen none the less try to take pictures of.... ;)

PokerFace23 07-31-2007 09:20 PM

it needs to be horsepower classes within vee and cat. but also you have to consider footage
