Its a give and take situation. But i'd rather get their later than sooner with back problems. And i'll let you know about the width.

I didn't buy an offshore boat just to trailer it around all over the place, I bought it so we could take it offshore! :cool-smiley-011: |
Should I be aware of stress cracks where the bracket is bolted to the transom on the Concepts ? Do they crack ? Are the notorious for anything ? Can they take a beating ?

Yes, its fun doing 100 plus mile trips. What mph do you cruise at ? You could island hop all the way to South America through the Caribbean, the longest leg is about 200 miles. I charted it out. It would be fun to get 3 or 4 boats in group and go see a couple of Islands.

Beam of the 32 Carrera is 9'3" which is the main reason they and most other brands were crossed off my list.
I would love to have a wider beam boat! My boat lives on my lift 99% of the time, however I had to have some thing that was trailerable (8'6" on interstates, 8' on other routes in MD). I've never seen or heard any thing about any one ever having issues with the brackets. Concept has a life-time hull warranty for original owners- not sure if the bracket is considered part of that or not. |

Based on my research and everyones experience with them, I think Concept makes a good narrow beam hull, but there are issues that have to be looked after for long term. Just like with any manufacturer. They are'nt bad enough to turn me off from buying one. Next concern is engine warranty, service and parts availability. I know Merc stands behind there product and you can get parts just about anywhere. I am not really sure about Yamaha or Suzuki. What do you guys know or think ?

I spoke to a few riggers locally (Miami) and they all say the same thing Mercury is a great motor BUT they tend to blow the lower unit. Then Yamaha is the main motor in the Keys, everyone (mostly fisherman) there says if you want to get from point a to point b fast Mercury....if you want to get back go with Yamaha. I dont know what their offering now but warranty wise Yamaha had 4-5 years and Suzuki 6 years. I have the new Suzuki 300's cause of two reasons 6 year warranty and you can use regular gas, Mercury 300's need premium or they run at 250-270h.p.
Not too many people know Yamaha builds motors for Ford. They also were involved in formula 1 (car) racing for several years. They had engines with 3 liter and 2.5 liter with 700 hp. They would turn about 18000 rpm. Valve spring don't work at that rpm. They have some trick set up that is pneumatically operated. I think Powerboat mag is biased towards Merc. There are better products out there. Personally I think the Suzuki is the hot setup. 50lbs lighter than the Verado, 300 hp on 87 or 89 oct, carb 3 star emissions and reliable. What's not to like?? Watch, there's going to be a horsepower war and you know who is going to win. |
My experience with Yamaha over the last 4 years has been FANTASTIC .... not just with the 3 HPDI 300's on the Concept , but also the last 3 snowmobiles I've had ..... when there is a problem (which have been VERY rare) Yamaha has made it go away ... PERIOD ! Not to mention ... my Yammy 300's run on any gas you throw at them .... that is HUGE for me these days , as we have no high test fuel within 70 miles anymore around here . I keep trying to switch to Mercs , but my conscience wont let me .

300 Verado likes 92 but can use 87- the 300XS' have to have at least 91.
I like the Yammy's and the Suzuki's as well- have friends with them and no issues what-so-ever. Then again- they don't run their boat the way I run mine... I am not a fan of the 2 stroke Suzuki that goes from 4 cyliners at idle to 6 when running- sounds like crap at the docks and hard to handle... Someone mentioned Yamaha and Ford.. I remember when Yamaha built the Ford SHO motor. |
Are there any issues with Verado lower units ? Any long term problems with the whole package ?

Explain

Dont know ,,, I have 40hours on the 300 Verado and have had no problems ,, have ran them hard a few times but most of it around 4000 with the random wide open for about 2-5 min's I have used 89oct to get home from long days and have not really seen a differance ,, when I get back on the trailor I put 93 back in and life goes on ,,,,, I like them a lot !!!

actually I and my passengers really like the quiet running Verado's. I've had my 275's for over 2 years now and have been owning outboard powered boats since 2003 and I really do not miss all the noise and hassle with I/O's

Just in case you didnt know (like me) the Verado and the Optimax XS get 30 gal. per hour the Suzuki does 25 per hour. I took my boat to get its first service at Seahunter...great boat by the way carbon/kevlar hull...and their mechanic mentioned it when i picked it up.

They usually have a large selection of Jupiter and Deep Impact,. IMO a much better built boat . |

I would say that they are for a different target market than a Concept and have many more amenities and creature comforts (for a much larger price as well) but for what Concept makes they make it very, very well IMHO. Would I stop by and look at them- heck ya!!!!!! I guess it all depends on what you expect out of the boat and it's constuction. And yes Concept do cost much less , what type of amenities are you talking about? |
