We ran that and back for Octoberfest several years ago. 4 locks and 130 miles each way. Was drizzling and cold (50's).
Left Sat and came arrived back Sun in the dark around 11pm.

There is a hotel and slips right in LaCrosse that we stayed at, cannot remember name. Had fun when the beer throwing songs would play, what a party.

Best Western Midway is the Motel with slips right off the river. (Black River) Call early for reservations though...

McGregor/Marquette Ia is about the halfway point and plenty of places in that pool as well for what you may need. These are my home waters and we run up to Lacrosse many times every year if you need more info.

Ditto to McGregor as halfway and Black River area for your LaCrosse stay. We've done that trip lots of times. We do the bulk of our boating on the Mississippi (we live near the Rockford area) in September and October- most of the weekend warriors and amateurs have long since put their boats away to tend to all their kids' school activities. It makes for a great place to cruise with very little boat traffic.
Just watch the forecast and pick your days.
Dubuque is a great starting place- good ramps and parking, and the scenery only gets better as you head north. We boat out of Savanna since it is a shorter drive for us.

You're going to want to wait until October now- as of today the Mississippi is reporting within a foot or two of flood stage at pools 12 and 11 and it's only going to get worse as the runoff reaches it. I live on the Rock River, and it is out of its banks.
