Why to buy extended warranties

Brunswick Product Protection/Passport Premiere just approved a $20,000 claim to put a new 500EFI long block in my Sonic. At 140 hours apparantly a piece of the valve seat dropped and was bouncing around inside the cylinder. Mercruiser retail on the long block was $18,000 plus the misc. parts and labor. My original intent on buying the warranty was for the resale value but now I am well ahead based on the original $10,600 cost.
If anybody needs information or pricing on a warranty, let me know. I can get coverage on engines up to the 525's as long as you are still within the 1 year manufacturer warranty. Also, if you are just purchasing the boat, we can roll the cost of the policy into the financing.

Buy them always! My former mechanic had a great line, do you want the boat to break with your money or theirs? My 04Sunsation had a bad valve issue/ exhaust issue and Mercury replaced both motors at a warranty claim of over 25K on 2 1/2 year old motors with 210 hours on them.

Hideaway Marina got the claim taken care of and the boat back in the water with new power this summer.

I purchased the same warranty on my 525. Haven't used it yet. But it's nice to know that I have it. I also bought it for resale reasons. I was hesitant about purchasing it because of the cost and the "Not Covered" items, but after reading this post and seeing that they stepped up to the plate and picked up the tab, I feel better. I went the extra mile and got the upgraded policy.

If you only keep a boat 2-3 years like i do it really helps when you go to sell it. The new owner knows he's covered for a couple of years. It closed the deal on my last 2 boats when i went to sell them.
