Do the No Wake Zones not count for Callan?

Now maybe they had special permission, but I found it odd that Callan blasted through the No Wake zone at the Glaize Bridge on Sunday at LOTO. All the boats were idling and he went by doing at least 130 or 140mph. Looked cool but not sure it was a good decision.

bobonthis 08-28-2007 07:50 PM

They are on here, ask them...

bobonthis 08-28-2007 07:51 PM

What does the sign say..I forget? Is it Friday at dusk till sunday?

QWKRN U 08-28-2007 07:54 PM

Sat, Sun, and Holidays.Memorial day til Labor day. from 10am til official sunset.

:party-smiley-048: Thats funny! Did they roost the bridge...That would of been sweet!

baywatch 08-28-2007 08:41 PM

That thing would be a mo fo to drive at idle speed (no control).

I got the heck out of his way when he was heading back to the dock after his first run on Saturday. I looked over my shoulder and he was barrelling down on the old Apache so I turned hard to starboard to give him all the room he needed.

Dean Ferry 08-28-2007 08:43 PM

That's cause' their SPECIAL! They got a day pass on the IDLE zone!:cool-smiley-011:

Griz 08-28-2007 08:50 PM

Through the years I've seen more boats than I can count barrrel thru the Glaize zone. Ain't illegal until you get caught.

BINGO, we have a winner. That's what I tell the wife as I'm doing 80-90 mph down the interstate!!:D

QWKRN U 08-28-2007 09:16 PM

He blew right by a Water Patrol thats why I asked if they had special permission. ANd trust me Im not saying he was making a wake lol. I thought it was neat to get a private show off the back deck.

bobonthis 08-28-2007 09:19 PM

I am sure they did have a talk with the water patrol...I can't imagine going idle that long with that boat and its turbines...I am also sure they don't keep enough gas in it to make it back at idle. Towing it would be pretty dangerous and damaging also with the amount of and sizes of waves that particular weekend.

mpally 08-28-2007 09:23 PM

I couldn't imagine going 140 through the no wake zone with boats everywhere. Sounds pretty dangerous.

There were very few boats out at the time. around 7:30pm

Tinkerer 08-28-2007 10:14 PM

Isn't IDLE on a turbine 60% of full throttle.
Maybe 130 is IDLE

Cash Bar 08-28-2007 10:52 PM

When was OFFICIAL sunset?

QWKRN U 08-28-2007 10:57 PM

8:15ish not that it matters. The speed limit after sunset is 30mph.

Much like everyone has their own definition of "stock", everyone's boat has their own comfortable idle speed.. Jealousy will get you nowehere in life ;) ;)

GeeterB 08-29-2007 06:09 AM

Like someone else said.....Geeze officer I'm sorry...she idles at 130mph, nothing I can do about it

This "might" be the case, but did he really need to run 130-140 ??

ScottB 08-29-2007 06:51 AM

Probably lack of knowledge, we race in so many places, I too have gone through no wake zones on plane by accident. Its touch to look at signs from a canopy. As far as their speed, Dave and John are the utmost professionals and would not bring her up to speed unless they were confident they had a clear safe pass

Quinlan 08-29-2007 06:56 AM

Scotty, we missed you n the Haggin crew this year. You will be racing i would guess!

ScottB 08-29-2007 06:58 AM

Yes, we were racing in Long Island, big GEICO territory. We will be out in LOTO for the race

I wish you would have blown the Point Plesant Canal on plane in '06. I got stuck behind you for that trip. My food tasted like jet A for a week and my ears were ringing just as long.:D

Knot 4 Me 08-29-2007 07:32 AM

We left Shooter's a bit before 5:00 Saturday. After clearing the fireboat marking the start/end of the no wake area for the course, we headed out towards home at the 4MM. After we had made the turn left at the corner where Land's End and Dog Days are, I heard/saw the Bud Select boat coming up hard off to port. Once they cleared the shootout traffic, they really lit her up and were gone! Quickly lost sight of them past the community bridge. Very cool!!

Yes!!!! I believe that is the minimum planing speed for that boat!:evilb:

CAPTAIN CHUCK 08-30-2007 01:29 PM

Even if they didn't have permision....THERE'S NOT A COP THAT COULD CATCH THEM!!!:D

waterboy222 08-30-2007 02:07 PM

the ticket was probably cheaper than the fuel to idle that ungodly distance from tan tara to the other end of grand glaize bridge in a friggin TURBINE! A gallon a minute for 8 miles...20 minute idle at $8.00/gallon= $160 one way.. Ticket couldnt have been more than $100! hahaha:D

i halfway considered throwin out a fishin pole and catchin somethin to kill the time.. and I thought the idle out of duck creek at GLOC was bad!:chick:

cullen_11 08-30-2007 03:11 PM

Thinking that they got some permission ahead of time. In years past I have seen them idling back to the moorings where they crane in. Have seen what looks like them overheating having to shut down for a while, actually looks like it is on fire! Remember hearing that about turbines somewhere???
