Boat De-Naming...

Well LutzParty did it this evening. He was very careful to follow Vigor's Boat De-Naming ceremony that Wally sent to him.

The old name came off very easily with a little sanding and easy off oven cleaner. He shot champagne (and not the cheap stuff either) across the bow. He removed any other items that contained the name on the boat also. Then spoke the words of the ritual. (I wonder if anybody saw him talking to himself...you can't say it under your breath, you know) I'm sure they would be questioning his sanity if they did.

And as per Waterfoul's instruction he wrote the old boat name on a piece of paper and put it back inside the boat.

Now we will re-name it and re-christen it at a later date. Perhaps Memorial Day for the OSO gathering would be a good time for the christening!?

;) :D

Is this whole thing hokey or what!?? :D :D Anybody else out there re-named their boat with success? :)

KCHOTBOAT 01-10-2002 11:50 PM

What is the new name?

cgarrett 01-11-2002 12:00 AM

Damn,
So thats what caused my motor to blow. I was at a boat club and a friend that does body work came down with his buffer and helped me remove the old name. Two weeks later poof!!!!!!!!! Never even thought about it until now. I always heard not to change the name but I haven't replaced it yet.

I heard it was bad luck to change the name of a boat. Is this true or just one person feeding me a pile of s#&t?

MissAmy 01-11-2002 12:07 AM

Well, we aren't for CERTAIN what we are going to name it, but we are leaning towards LUTZPARTY; aka my hubby's handle here on the board.

Since it's a cruiser (I know, I know, some of you hard core power boaters probably hate me for that; my apologies)....but anyway, I was thinking that we could incorporate the look of a martini glass into the "Y". Thought that might give it that party-like look and feel to it. Just a thought.

Any other ideas? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

MissAmy 01-11-2002 12:09 AM

Troutly..LOL! very funny ;)

We've heard too that it's bad luck, but it still had the name and port of the old owner, and it was rubbing off and needed to be re-done anyway, so we thought if we follow all the instructions to a T, that hopefully all will be well.

Time will tell, I guess

MissAmy 01-11-2002 12:22 AM

Oh, and Cgarrett...there is always the "christening ceremony". You could perform that when you re-name it and maybe that will prevent any further bad luck from occurring.

Let me know if you want it and I can e-mail it to ya. :)

Red Stripe 01-11-2002 12:23 AM

I removed the name on my boat 2 years ago. I didn't know anything about a ritual that I was suppose to do.
Of well, didn't have any major problems with the boat. Wait a minute, when was it again that I blew out the outdrive? Two years ago   Damn, yeah maybe you did good buy following the ritual :D :D

Red Stripe 01-11-2002 12:33 AM

Miss Amy, I am thinking of putting a name on the boat for this year, could you shoot me that christening ceremony. Cant hurt :D :D

MissAmy 01-11-2002 12:38 AM

Red Stripe,
It should be in your mailbox. :)

Risk Taker 01-11-2002 12:44 AM

Cgarette....yes....the curse DOES exist.....you must follow MissAmy's lead and do the renaming Ceremony EXACTLY as shown....  :)

Red Stripe 01-11-2002 12:50 AM

Miss Amy, I didn't get anything yet  Could you please try to send it to [email protected]
Hotmail might be on the blink again

cgarrett 01-11-2002 12:52 AM

Miss Amy,
After you post I looked around and came across this; http://www.48north.com/aug97/denaming.htm

If you have something better give me an email it's in the profile.

MissAmy 01-11-2002 12:57 AM

Yep, That be it!!

Red stripe,
I re-sent it to you, but if you still don't get it, Cgarrett just posted the link for it here. So either way, you should be covered now. :)

Cord 01-11-2002 09:07 AM

Now, MissAmy, I don't know how you guys christen a boat; but when we do it, we kinda prefer to be alone. :D ;)

Wally 01-11-2002 09:22 AM

Cord...LOL! Thats the proper way in my book too! :D :D

When i got the Scarab it was called Out of Bounds. I took off the name and thought nothing of it...she ran great for the last three weeks of the season before winter. The next year was hell!!! blew up 5 engines and one outdrive!!! now i dont know if it had anything to do with the name but hell if it would have prevented SOME of it i would have dont it in a heartbeat!!! :( Oh well live and learn i guess!!! Wish someone would have told me about it being bad luck before i started!

formula31 01-11-2002 09:30 AM

send it to me to please, also renaming this winter, cant be too careful with new motors and all.

MissAmy 01-11-2002 09:46 AM

Cord and Wally~ LP and I will have a private christening too! ;) :D

And Wally thank yo soooo much for warning us of the bad luck that can happen if you don't de-name and re-name properly. You da man! :D

MissAmy 01-11-2002 10:20 AM

F 31,
You should have it your mail. Let me know if you don't recieve it. Thanks! :)

cgarrett 01-12-2002 03:29 AM

The guy that owned the boat before me put the boats name on everything. They should have never given this guy a majic marker. He must have had a lot of things stolen as a kid. I'll bet his mom even wrote his name on his underwear! If I do like the denaming says, I'll have to get rid of life jackets, fenders, safety equipment, light, ladder, manuals, cover, and lines. It might be easier to just put the damn name back on the transom.

Miss Amy,

I like the champagne glass idea. Very nice!

We are re-naming our boat from CHELLABELL (?) to "TENACIOUS". That's because when I set out to do something, it gets done no matter what! Just try building a house with contractors and inspectors that don't "cooperate". :D

Miss Amy & LP-

i love the name idea! that will look wonderful. make sure i get an invite to the "public" christening. i'd show up for the "private" one too, but i doubt that i will be able to make it...i don't know what i would wear! ;)
