Sonic vs. Coyote
Ed - I respect your opinion a lot, but I believe that when I had my 34' Coyote (that I should have never sold) years ago, that both Ron Doller (shows you how long ago) and Brownie told me that the 33 Sonic was from a 34' Coyote mold that was blocked off a foot. Sonic then made their own deck, but you can see the similarities. Maybe we can get our friend Brownie to weigh in on this one.

The 33 came from the 38' Coyote, not the 34. A red 38 owned by French Dentist Claud Tubiana was "popped" and the 38' mold was dammed. Ed is partially right about the Donzi lineage... but that was only for boats up to the 31 Sonic. 33 and up were Coyote. The 24 Sonic came from an actual Donzi mold. It was not a pop. The deck was new though.
By the way, Tubiana was paid with a new 24 Sonic Center Console, the first one ever built. The last time I saw it, Eric Froberg owned the boat and he had planned to restore her.
The red Coyote 38 was later seized in a drug raid.

This is NOT true.
Sonics came from Coyote.
AT hulls are NOT derived from ANY Sonic (or Coyote).
Both the 25 and 32 Active Thunder molds were sold. They came from a very small midwest company.
The 28, 33, 37, and 43 Active Thunder molds are ALL ORIGINAL with the help of Harry Schoell.

have a boat in mind in the mid 30 foot range... no longer in production and was told the original molds were modified with steps and dont even exist? the apache/cigar is a little to big for my first go at it... wanting to break 85 mph with a mid 30 foot v with 496 ho motors...and come to market around 85k... but still in the discovery stages to see if that is even feasable/profitable..... probably more mental masturbation than anything... but I would need a labatome to get the boat bug gone...

Boat building is an expensive hobby, not a money making business... especially now.
