Default How the chance to hear when you broken springs valve ??

Ok i am little bit nervous here, specialy when you lose a XR drive , all the little sound can made you very nervous ,

This past week-end when i was on the Lake Champlain i hear two little tick like cracking piece of steel , this happening at around 3200 rpm , with all the issue of some folks here with 525 valve train i am a bit nervous

what i made since the past week-end
Replace the engine oil ( 7 hrs ) ...look to smell gas , but not sure
Replace all the spark plug
Made a Compression Test , all the cylinder are around 153 to 157 psi
Check the pressure in the fuel rail , 40 psi at Idle , and check for injector leaking ...and we can hold pressure for more than 10 minute

Do you think the sound i hear is a broken spring valve ? my engine have 204 hrs , the motor have good idle , and performance to ....and when he running at idle i don't hear nothing bad

this coming week-end we have a Radar Shootout at our Lake , it's better for me to stand on the shore and watch the competitor , or i can made 2 to 3 pass ?
Do you think a human ear can catch when the spring collapse ?? spcecialy when you run straight pipe

Sorry for my poor english , but i made big effort to be understand .....hope to not bothering you
Regard's

The 525efi dont have the same valve spring issues as the 500efis did.

You prob need to pull a valve cover off and look,First get a pice of wood and put your ear to it to see if its in the valve cover

There are a few 525's out there that have had spring issues. It not that bad to pull off the valve covers and take a peek inside. You may need a little mirror to put behind the spring in order to see inbetween all the coils in the spring to see a 3. Well, 2 with a damper any way. Also look in the bottom of the head where the oil lays for little shimmering bits of steel.

Let us know how you make out.

USUALLY, and I want to stress that word, when a valve spring is broken performance is down, the idle is rough and the compression in that cylinder is down. You will not get your peak RPMs because the spring is not strong enough to close the valve. It is worth pulling the valve cover and checking. If you drop a valve into the cylinder you will have major engine damage.

Expensive tool to have laying around but it will shed some light.

Look at this one, it will clear headers and other items in the way.

Much more likely, especially if they are CMI's

Yes, if the header collector gasket or the rope seal (older CMI models) has a leak it will sound like a ticking sound.

Also, it could be a collapsed lifter.
