Insurance & top speeds

i was talking to my progressive agent and was told that my max speed could be no faster than 75 but a bass boat can be insured up to 90mph.

Why is it that a smaller less stable boat is allowed to be insured for faster speeds?does not make sense to me:confused:

yeah, I don't get it either........

based on the amount the boat is worth and insured value is in the case of a loss. don't hear about many bass boat incidents.

bass boats carry inland coverage only as well...most offshore stuff needs well OFFSHORE coverage....

I dont know if this is cheap but my 25ft convincor with a 454 motor, my insurance is only $485 for the year. I dont know if that is cheap but that is what it is. John

True......and a 90 MPH 39 OL cost a bunch more to replace as well as the amount of damage if it hits another vessel at high speed. Ocean, River and lake boating insurance all have different premiums assigned to them with ocean being the most expensive with all the surcharges.:boat: :traurig001: :traurig001:

The cost of the boat, any boat, is peanuts as compared to what personal injury costs can be.

Just a thought........Maybe bass boats are cheaper because they normally have a max of 2 people on board. As compared to a pleasure boat with 2-6, or more. Plus, you don't hear of DUI's and night time collisions on bass boats nearly as often.

Do you have a reason for making this statement? I used them on my last boat as their rates are close to half of what the big boys charge. Then again, I never had a claim.

Yeah, the bass boat statement is the exact same thing Bob Luellen said to me when I was looking for coverage on my new boat. :Whatever:

I had a theft claim. They don't pay! They want to believe YOU are the guilty person.

well i would have gone with statefarm since i have 2 cars,my house and another boat thru but they wanted 1200 more per year than progressive.:greenchainsaw:

One other thing Statefarm does not pay claims sometimes to.They would not Cover an enclosed workshop that we were told that if it was sheet rocked and had an a/c vent in it, it would be covered for flood. Its part of the house. Guess what they did not pay for our Water well pump or tank, or any of the thousands of dollars in tools that were lost in the flooding from Katrina.:angry-smiley-038:

I have had 2 major claims with Progressive and they paid with-out a lot of BS. I'm very happy with them.:cool-smiley-027:
