Golddigger

I just saw golddigger outside LCM.....the support team said it ran in part the poker run on Saturday but I did not get to se it run..what a sweet piece of machinery....anyone know what kind of numbert it ran......

OL40SVX 09-09-2007 12:03 PM

I know what numbers they were running up here in RI, but I probably shouldnt say. Ill leave it up to Gatorone.

Elite Marine 09-09-2007 12:41 PM

Unfortunately it seems that Outerlimits has not figured it out yet, as nobody has seen the boat run well to date.

This months Powerboat interview with Fiore indicated that they pulled the KE engines and installed Merc 1200's claiming that the switch was to a "known" entity. Whatever that means.

I just don't understand how or why you would completely finish a hull including interior, full rigging and very expensive paint without a sea trial.

Beautiful boat with major issues it appears. Hopefully they'll sort it out. Outerlimits builds an incredible boat.

thunderusone 09-09-2007 12:54 PM

I did not see it run, but I smoked it over at state dock friday night and it is an impressive piece. It did have 1200 mercs in it though.

low 160s w 1200s on hull #1 is pretty good in my book

LubeJobs42 09-09-2007 04:45 PM

I'm sure they will get all the bugs out of it. I think most new designs take a while to get them dialed in. I'm sure Mike will get this dialed in. Face it, it's an Outerllimits!!!

I agree!!

SkiDoc 09-09-2007 07:07 PM

I'm not sure what happened at LCPR but the Outerlimits crew was wrenching a lot on the starboard motor. They looked pretty frustrated. I was going to ask but they looked in no mood to answer .

160's I think is a great number if that is what it is for that size of a boat with those Merc 1200's. I still like Platinum.

jax55 09-10-2007 07:52 AM

I can tell you from personal experience that Randy Scism and the MTI got thier first 55' right:) - runs and handles as advertized

All I can say is regardless how much $$$ or how many toys I had; if my $2Mish 50 footer that was the star of a boat show 8 months ago was still not running 100% I would be pretty pissed...

Didn't you lay out $$ out of your own pocket to try out a bunch of different props on your boat? Why didn't you push back on Concept that the setup should have been 100% perfect when you took delivery?

Didn't you also blow up a lower & a powerhead in less than a season?

My point is that all boats have issues. You have had them yourself, in what would be considered a fairly simple set up compared to the first 50' cat from a v-hull builder with big power.

Amen also when MTI built they're 55 they had already done several years of cat builds. I bet the first MTI was not perfect right out of the box.

The first MTI was Tommy Bahama. If I remember correctly, that boat was a National and World champion. (remember...you brought this up!);) ;) :drink:

I might also add that I would give my left "you know what" to own Gold Digger or the Skater. Both of them are sick sick sick!

That's not what I meant I like the MTI's just saying the first of any design boats has issues to work out.

I got the impression that you liked the boats when you were here. Just couldn't pass up the opportunity to give you a hard time!

jax55 09-10-2007 05:35 PM

Hey, greg trust all is well, we'll be in KW - boats headed south in about 3 weeks -

Elite Marine 09-10-2007 08:50 PM

I'm sure OL will get it straightened out. My only question was why throw the $ 100K paint and the rest of the goodies on it until it's dialed in?? I'm pretty sure the paying customer regardless of his experience with OL or other builders does not need to fund R&D.

Contrary to Fiores statement in PB - it can't be acceptable.

I have my own handling issues to deal with

It'a all Marylandmarks fault anyway!!

where was your Friends boat it seems he did not make it off the dock let me guess he don't have one or it's to fast for this little lake...

dhlaw 09-11-2007 05:10 PM

Gotta be careful what you say about Gatorone's boats...... I once said that it wasnt as fast as he claimed and almost had to schedule 2 boxing matches in Greencove Springs!!

Bill is a damn good guy that has poured a ton of money into the offshore boating research and development side of things. I watched as GD had some belt related problems and various other issues but at the end of the day I am still pretty damn impressed. I know that Keith gives 100% for him and the hardware is unreal.

SLINGSHOT 09-11-2007 05:53 PM

more pics!!!!

Whipple Charged 09-11-2007 07:39 PM

I feel the GD is a remarkable piece of machinery, and to say its a flop is insane. It might be behind schedule, and lord knows I've been there before, but it's running, and running well. Not every issue with a boat is related to the actual boat builder, hull, etc. I know I've tried to test certain boats, where first its a sea pump, then not enough air, then not enough water, then drive breaks, then... A month later, I'm still waiting to test my setup.:ernaehrung004:

I think 160+ out of a 50' Cat with Merc 1200's is pretty darn impressive. If the big motors go back in, it would certainly be impressive. Maybe if Bill wants to trade, oh I don't know, maybe thousand or so superchargers for the boat, I can work that out :drink:

Jupiter Sunsation 09-11-2007 07:43 PM

Forget the boats, I would be happy just having the tow rig!

All of Gatorone's rides are awesome, from the 3600 NT to Ballistic to 47 GTX to GD to Skater........................
