Friend needs buying help on a new boat...
 

I figured you folks could help. My friend is looking to buy a new 34 foot boat. Here are his parameters for this boat:
Deep Vee (no cats), no coring in the hull (solid glass), no steps (pad ok), top speed in the mid 60's with 5 yr warranty, gas engines (Merc), 8-8'6" beam, wrap around windshield. Ideally, he'd like to go back 20 years and buy a new Formula SR-1 (he likes the silent thunder exhaust). He's looking for a "gentlemans speedboat". He doesn't like the styling of the Baja in that size (he thinks it's balsa cored in the bottom anyway). A used/repower is out of the question. Any ideas?

What's wrong with the new formulas? They look almost identical to the old ones. Look at the SS models for no step.

He would buy a new Formula but the Fastechs have stepped bottoms and the SS series are too wide.

he may also want to look at McManus (apache). I don't think he likes to use steps, builds a great hull, but you'll pay for it.

Sounds like a Cobalt 343 might be close, although I think they have a single step.

Check out a 33 Active Thunder. Built the way you want it, very rugged boat, with old school looks. Has the same cockpit size as their 37 model. Jeff

I would suggest he look at the Sonic 358 and the Nordic 35 Flame.

Id say a Velocity 36 or a 35 Sutphen

You may find some with a solid fiberglass bottom, but most manufacturers are using coring in the sides and deck.

The Formula's are stepped, but they use little "baby" steps. A 353 has a 1.25 step and a 1.5 step....that's it. (the Active Thunder has one step that is 4 inches). Sonics are straight bottom but no windshield. Is this a trick trivia question??? Not sure what boat fits the parameters here.
