General Rule of thumb: CG about 3% - 5% of boat's length behind center of lift when running near full speed in full trim. Any further aft and the azz end sinks like a rock leading to trips and stuffs. Any further forward, and you're plowing water and bow steering. Remember though, that the center of lift changes with speed and trim. Hopefully, the manufacturer places the steps accordingly.

Hey Tom,

I would talk to Phil (Lip-Ship) and or Tres Martin. They both have rigged and run more Gladiators than anyone.

I've got documents from Formula showing a CG range. Try a call to Cig, or as mentioned Lip Ship or Tres.

Tsunamiracing, Each boats center balance point will vary. On the Fountain super V in worked with it was about 12 inches fwd of the trailing edge of the second step. Real close to the fwd engine bulkhead.

Tsunamiracing . It balances where it balances. Use a sling or jack stands find the balance point forward and back. Once the boat is assembled it is where it is. It may move with the fuel load depending on how well the tank is located. To set it, as you say, is done by moving or adding weight, its best done during rigging. The boats I raced with were under weight and we would add lead shot where we felt it was needed for the particular day.
