Triples in a cat?
How does this work? And what is the deal with Ocean Express cats? They look like they are really cool laid out boats. Havn't seen anything newer in advertisments, but the older ones are really cool looking. Anyone know anything about them?

Ocean X's are pretty cool boats. wont be the fastest but are layed out for space and comfort. they are the only ones i have seen do a triple in a cat and require a center pod to accommodate the center drive. i have seen that boat a few times and shes a big'un :D use to run out in the sandusky area and was pretty nice when i saw it but that was several years ago. i seem to remember the owner saying it went somewhere in the buck twenties. They have been working on a new 49 that is VERY cool but it has been in the works for several years now. not sure what the status is in that one.

I am wondering about these boats. Do they make a lot of these and people just don't sell them, or did they go out of business. Are they Like Sutphen, where they only make a few every year? |
They are made in Algonac Michigan and are still in bussiness. I know they are heavy wave crushers. That is all I can tell you about them sorry I can't help more.

Those express cats are on the heavy side and have very large tunnels that require big hp to run. I would be all over that boat with a moisture meter if i was looking at buying it.

With old hulls I am always worried about rot, cracks, deterioration, bad fuel tanks. :Whatever: |

You would better off looking for an older Skater project boat. The difference in ride and speed will be day and night. Stay away from the triple I/O cats.

Nothing wrong with an older Jag: I know.:D No worries about rot, since they're all composite and extremely strong...ask Doug with On Time (35' Jag). They're not the fastest, but they ride great . :cool:

Triples is usually a silly idea. It worked back when engines weren't available much larger than 468 and the Hawk 501 was the beast motor. The other was outdrives- problems solved by 6's and arnesons. Triples meant another 1,500# in weight and the drag of the 3rd drive. Now, you can do the same thing with two mildly blown 540's and burn less fuel in a faster boat.
