Where did the 31 Excalibur come from, did JC Simone swipe that too?

My reference to Harry and Jim/Walt is that they were unwilling fathers of a s**tload of boat companies. Try to keep up, Mavarick!

Brownie:

Although it could offend some advertisers, this should be one of your HOT BOAT column(s).

Guys like me love hearing about "ship curves" (I'm formally trained in drafting).

Maybe a wikipedia entry?

Merlin stuck the Excaliber in the stone. Then Sir Lancelot pulled it out of the stone. I hear Reggie pulled a sword out of there too, but I wasn't alive in the Middle ages.......

As a milestone I have to ask, who made the first ventilated/stepped hull? This was a huge change for boat design.

In rough water Brownie and Don Aronow 'ventilated' a few hulls on their way back in the Miami-Nassau-Miami / Bimini races, but I don't think that's the type of ventilating you are referring to. LOL

Christopher Columbus Smith (Chris Craft) and Gar Wood are typically credited with the first practical application of steps on planing hulls. That was Miss Detroit III in 1917. They were an adaptation from hydroplanes. I've also heard discussion about the technology being applied to the pontoons on amphibious aircraft around that same time frame. Later the designs migrated to the aircraft's fuselages. Who borrowed it from whom is a question that most likely will never be answered.
