Pretty sick racing!:cool-smiley-026:

BY U BOY 09-21-2007 05:37 PM

holy crap at 3 min 40 those guys almost got run over:eek:

MOBILEMERCMAN 09-21-2007 05:53 PM

Man that looked like fun. Some serious chine walking going on. Swimming and bumping seems like a regular part of those races. Kind of reminds me of F2 racing in '98-'00 when there was 15 or twenty boats in a class. I'm jealous that looks like good racing to me.
Jim

Tantrum 09-21-2007 08:44 PM

That looks like a blast.

chuckbeecher 09-21-2007 09:08 PM

Gives a new meaning to rubrail to rubrail!!!
What type boats and where were these races?

JLAY 09-21-2007 09:29 PM

Someone had a thread about this about a month ago. I believethey were made in he US but raced overseas. Do a search on the name of the video on here.

onesickpantera 09-21-2007 09:41 PM

WOW! That is some good racing! I haven't seen anything close to that since the 2002 F1 racing. Too bad F1 fell apart and one-design racing didn't take off like that over here. :(

onesickpantera 09-21-2007 09:43 PM

I did a search and this thread popped up from 2002. People basically making fun of it. Funny how times change!

onesickpantera, what do you think the co pilot does? Is he acting like a co pilot like in the movie TopGun looking out for incoming. Some serious bump and grinding going on.
Jim

MitchStellin 09-22-2007 12:09 AM

Thats like dirt bike racing, get the hole shot and hold your line and you win. I bet you could pick one of those boats up. How simple can you get? A motor you can basically pin for days, no tabs, just seat of the pants racing. I love the trips and stuffs, and the ejections, what a riot....and pounding that was.....

TeamSaris 09-22-2007 07:28 AM

Thats awesome !!!!!!

A 21 Superboat or 24 pantera would be competetive with those guys.

MOBILEMERCMAN 09-22-2007 08:44 AM

You need a boat with a high side. So you are protected in bumper boat mode.
Jim

320es 09-22-2007 09:18 AM

That is awesome! Dirt track stock cars crossed with offshore racing. Those guys sure take a beating. Anybody know how big those boats are?

By the looks of it I would say they are basically being the navigator. Telling them which direction to go and when there is "incoming". :D

The smaller 150hp boats are 21' with a 7' beam. The 225hp boats are 27' long with a 6' beam.

Great video as a teaching tool for most all ill boat behavior...chine walking, porpoising, stuffing, etc.

Is this a spec class with identical boats and engines? That would keep the cost of racing down, and it looks extremely competitive!

Michael

MOBILEMERCMAN 09-23-2007 10:58 PM

Chine walking ? Some were going from rub rail to rail. Almost senseless at times. I wonder if your allowed to climb back in after a swim and continue.
Jim

cauzmik 09-23-2007 11:29 PM

How are some of those guys not dead or missing limbs?

BradH 09-23-2007 11:51 PM

I gotta do that

Kims 09-24-2007 12:10 AM

If a class like that opened over here and allowed stock engines other than Honda, but with same power for same class, I would sign up! That IS racing, not who got the most $$$ kinda show!

I would be a great time until Reggie enters a boat the :hitfan:

MOBILEMERCMAN 09-24-2007 04:37 PM

I laugh ever time I watch it. Just figured I'd bring near the top of the list again for those who might have missed it.
Jim

Dock Holiday 09-24-2007 04:49 PM

Is that the bumper boats championship?

That is crazy, I don't think I have ever seen anything like it.

Call it extreme, crazy, Nutz, out of control, you name it.

I'm just surprised someone did not get killed.

WOW

I've never seen boats traveling on their gunwales before, and for quite some distance. They might even have to invent a new term to describe that!:cool-smiley-026:

Tom A. 09-27-2007 02:59 AM

Offshore Racing + Jersey Skiff racing + Nascar short track racing = :circle:

AC 09-27-2007 09:24 AM

Now that's boat racing, it looks like anything goes. Those boats are out of control, do they have trim tabs? The US boat racing is lame.

Raylar 10-01-2007 11:34 AM

This is exactly why you need the wings like on the Batboat Reindl hulls on boats this small in those condtions. Its amazing that more of them don't get killed!!

Crazy, like playing russian roulette with three bullets in the gun!

Ray @ Raylar

MOBILEMERCMAN 10-01-2007 11:40 AM

Raylar, its not that bad, Besides race jackets are ballistic too. It seems they aren't there to be cool, they are there to race. God bless them.
Jim

Fenderjack 10-01-2007 12:15 PM

awsome defenatly looks fun, some neck and neck ****. Wonder what kind of speeds they are running, 65 or so.. For sure letting the ballz hang..

John

Chris Sunkin 10-01-2007 12:41 PM

The boats are made by Cougar. 26' stepped-hull, 70MPH w/ Honda 225 hp engines. Nice one-design series that runs in England. It would get alot more people into the sport but next to a 44' cat, they would look kind of silly.

We had something sort of like this some years back- it was called the Skater 24. Cheap to race, went 100MPH. You could bring this back here easily but I think the poker run concept has killed all chances. Who wants all those pesky rules & organization anyway?

Looks like alot of fun but maybe needs a better set of rules- or at least a canopy.
