I think Texacoma was refering to keeping the motor alive when he talked about WOT runs....not so much the drive.

I agree that the most hurt you can put on a drive is leaving the water and not pulling off the throttle in time for re-entry. when the prop leaves the water at 4000 rpms, it spins up to 4500(or more).....then re-enters the water, and the water will bring the rpms back to 4000.....this causes shafts to twist and or break.

You need to anticipate leaving the water and get off the throttle. once you re-enter, get right back in it.

Your boat is 18 years old,a broken drive or blown up engine is a definate possibility,they don't last forever.watch your fluids,change them often and with the age of your boat I would probably not hold it a wot long unless you are in complete understanding that something may give out,Smitty

Best way to have longevity with engines and outdrives:
1-learn to properly throttle the boat in rough water
2- ease it up on plane
3- don't run WOT everywhere
