Thats about right BUT........as stated textbook maint to get there and the headers can be an issue along the way. Get them checked periodically.

I put 550 hours on the motors that were in my old boat. They were 502's, 550 hp, merlin heads and solid flat tappet camshafts with stock GM rotating assemblies..... changed valves, springs, guides, milled heads etc. etc. at 250 hours... 90% of its life was spent between 3-4k rpms with WOT bursts every once in a while but for no more than a minute at a time.

525's have better parts than what I had, if treated properly I don't see why they would last as long if not longer with reg. maint.

PS, I didn't have leaky CMI's on those motors.... Stainless Marine all the way!

Ok mine... 200 Hrs , i do compression test ....and 155 to 160 psi ....and still running strongth !!!! i will redone test at the end of the next coming season (+/- 100 hrs )

Just had one fail at 80 hours. Sunk exhaust valve in #8 cylinder.

Regular maintenance performed at 20 hour intervals using Merc 25w40. Spent 95% of it's short life between 3200 and 4500 rpm.

i guess that motor was built on a monday or a friday .
