winter storage???
|
Store it empty...no debate.

Marinas inmy area say there is no ethanol in their gas, so I am confused... should I fill it to about 3/4 tank?
or winterize it with as little gas as paossible? I would treat whatever gas is in there with Stabil of course... Thanks! |
I run it down as far as I dare, then add Stabil. So far, no problems.

Just dump in some stabil and let it ride, use the correct ratio on mixing it and you should not have any problem. I have a car here that I haven't put any fuel in for almost two years now, I can go out right now and it starts like a new one...........one day its gonna backfire on me though, I have got to burn that gas out and add some new. Stabil works really well. It made a believer out of me.
For extended storage past a year, it's always best to empty everything including lines and fuel bowls on any gas engine. I wouldn't trust marina fuel to be that much better, even if they say it didn't have ethanol in it. With the mandated removal of MTBE from gasoline, it's all pretty much junk in 60 days unless treated. I haven't tried Startron, but I'll tell you one thing- it's getting enormous internet exposure on other boating forums and is getting VERY hard to find. |

Dean I do not know you but I am sure all us Northern boater will say BITE ME :ernaehrung004: we mean that with all the respect you deserve :D but we are a little jealous as we are looking to winterize our boat you lucky SOB
No worries, your response was the one I was expecting!:hitfan: Besides, our big boat, (nordic 35) is still apart @ Mystic powerboats, we haven't run that boat in over a month. The Seadoo jet boat, we took out a couple of weeks ago. Winterizing in FL consist of dropping a work light in the bilge if the overnight temps drop towards the 30's! Dean |
Funny thing is there more and more conflicting articles found in BoatUS magazine, DIY magazine, and Boater mag just to name a few I have subscriptions to on how to store boats over the winter with E-10 fuel. Some so called expert writers state as empty as possible, while others say stick with the full tank philosophy???? So with the proper additives it's probably six one way, half a dozen another.
