Sonic. A lot more room, which is how it should be when comparing a 29ft boat to a 31. Not really a fair comparison.

Ahhhh, resale is only important when you are selling.
Which is what bern does.

IMO, i'd rather buy what i will enjoy more.

my vote goes to Sonic of the 2 u are looking for.

What would I want: Sonic

What would my accountant want: Formula, for the resale and five year warranty. The Formula brand is very strong with used buyers, the new boat financing is insanely low and the factory 5 year warranty is nice but the 496 motors would be a big sales point for the Sonic but the good years/ bad years of production might scare the buyer.

with the way the market is today, im surprised more people dont take resale into consideration when there buying boats...have bought and sold 5 boats in 4 years and the only 1 i had a problem selling was a 22 Avanti (no name recognition). 1999 29 scarab with twin 350's and bravo's was for sale for 5 weeks and went over seas, 1998 30 Spectre with Merc 300's for sale for about the same time went to Ft meyers FLA, and 99 Formula 353 Fastec again 1-2 months and sold..went to Michigan....if ya buy them right ya can sell them right and fast

Anyone care to comment on how the two boats are built ?
I've seen Sonic and Formula , and the fit & finish on the
Sonic isn't par with Formula . Didn't get to the nitty gritty
on the hull structures either . The 6.2's are an excellent
engine combo for the Formula with a 1.65 drive ratio .
I've seen 29 Fountains now with 6.2's as well .
Changing the pistons out it would be ready for
supercharging ,since all the internals are good pieces .
Resale would definitely be better on the Formula .And
yes the Sonic is much bigger inside if you care about space
down below .

Wait for the NEW 32 Fountain with twin small blocks. At least wait, then decide.

I can see why someone would like both the Sonic and Formula.

Personally, I would tend toward the Sonic, because they are custom, and you can have so much stuff left OUT.

But on a boat that small, I think a single would be far more fun: for the same $$ (which is the limit of your fun) you will get lots more time and miles with a single, ESPECIALLY when you start spending $$ on service.

I'm a Formula fan (and 2 time owner) but would pick the 31 Sonic over the 29 Formula. For some reason I just don't like the 29. If your choices were any other the other Formula sizes then I'd lean towards Formula. Sonic fit and finish isn't as good, but that's just because Formula's are VERY good. Sonic will seem more than 2 ft bigger in the cabin. Fuel burn is irrelevant to me, there is no such thing as TOO MUCH horsepower!!!
