Washing Ropes?

It seems I read on here one time that some of you guys are running your ropes through the washer and dryer. I tried a search, but couldn't find it.

Does anybody here do this? If so, what do you have to watch out for when doing it? Anything special as far as detergent goes?

I've done/tried it. Mostly I just let them soak. The problem was that they FLOAT.

I was the one who recently posted about "getting the stink out". Throw 'em in a laundry bag to minimize the mess they'll turn into. I meant to throw mine in a pillow case but forgot. They were twisted and knotted. I think I just used regular detergent but not as much as if I was doing laundry. And yeah, I threw in some clothes while I was at it :D
As for drying, I just let 'em hang. Ropes are good and don't stink.

I soak & wash them with ERA or Wisk and if they smell I add a lot of vinegar to the mixture. Lay them out to air dry if weather is good or dryer if weather is bad or in a hurry.

Bleach on white ropes will clean the crap out of them, colored ropes you can do as advised above.

I put my white lines in a 5gal bucket of water with a few cups of bleach for a day or two then hang and air dry, my colored lines I wash in Tide (in the washer) and hang and let air dry..........

I put mine in a lingerie bag and washed them.... helped them from not floating and also from getting tangled in the washer....

I just threw mine in the washer once and washed like normal clothes, they came out FUBAR.

I soak them for a couple days in Oxy-Clean then I take them to a laundromat with a big front-load machine. They come out like new.

Alot of it depends on the ropes. Cheap ropes don't do well, neither do twisted ropes.
