Must be one high speed camera! engine at idle ?

JeffC 10-02-2007 07:16 AM

Now thats someting you dont get to see everyday..

CigDaze 10-02-2007 07:36 AM

Wow. That is friggin awesome. Nice find.

Cool Vid

CCstinger260 10-02-2007 10:47 AM

Pretty awesome, especially when you sit and think that at 6000RPM's that's happening at a rate of 100 combustion cycles per sec, or put differently, each cylinder firing 50 times per second...way cool, now think indy car motor and multiply by 2!:cool-smiley-027:

Strip, that is one cool video.

This will be great to show my kids after trying to explain to them how an internal combustion engine works.

The explanation came after they heard our starboard side engine (525efi) grenade itself as the number 8 exhaust valve went south after only 80 hours.

zitoracing 10-02-2007 03:16 PM

That was hella cool strip

jeff1000man 10-02-2007 03:21 PM

very instructive. Now I want to see the one where the water comes in the exhaust valve when it opens.

yeah, no kiddin.

burtandnancy 10-02-2007 05:04 PM

I keep looking and they edit out or omit the exhaust stroke. The exhaust valve opens, then the video skips ahead. Anyone know why?

bouyhunter 10-02-2007 05:18 PM

Very cool video!!

I'm guessing just to shorten the clip because there's not a lot to see on the exhaust stroke.

Coleman 10-02-2007 06:24 PM

I need those cameras on my engines...And on the play back you can see where the valve face seperated from the valve stem and starts to embed itself into the piston, the cumbustion chamber, and where it split the cylinder wide open. Now you see where all the sea water came from.:D

blue thunder 10-02-2007 06:25 PM

Amazing! I'd like to see the same video with the spark plug indexed to the intake valve. See if its a myth indexing helps even the burn. It interesting the way the fuel flames up around the intake valve. Must be puddling of fuel?

Thanks Strip!

Thanks for sharing, very cool.

ctadams21 10-02-2007 08:50 PM

Very cool. Takes me back to my engine lab days in college. Swirl, tumble, flame front, squish. There's a lot going on in there besides fuel and spark.

rickdarling 10-02-2007 08:57 PM

Thanks for posting. Great video.

Try almost 3 times. We were turning close to 17,000 rpm in our Honda's in 2000. Almost 1000 hp from 161 cubic inches, and only 6 inches of boost.....

CCstinger260 10-02-2007 10:57 PM

Haven't kept up with Indy cars for a looong time. I knew they went about 14k, had no idea they went way more than that. Sick amount of HP out of those little beasties though.

That is definately not a marine engine, because the duration on the cam opens the exhaust valve way to early in the cycle. It looks like when the valve opens that the smoke swirl is still being drawn down into the cylinder.

Or are my eyes just bad.

Wonder what the center lobe is on that cam?

That is great to watch. We know the theory and now we can see that theory visually as it happens.

HabanaJoe 03-25-2008 07:35 PM

That is really cool - great find!!!
