Happy Anniversary BROWNIE !!!!

Well folks, it was just 40 years ago today, Columbus Day, that Mr Brown took a 28 foot Donzi with two engines running through one v drive on one shaft, and won the Miami to Nassau 185 mile race.

The Miami Nassau race was the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500 of offshore racng in it's day. To win that race put you in the top of the league of the wild men of offshore.

Long time ago, but still worth remembering....Great job Brownie...Congrats again.

Ah, back in the day when men were men and the sheep were scared!

Brownie - Another one of your amazing accomplishments, we are all so fortunate that you share some of these great stories with us. Barry

With out a doubt it is an honor that you take the time to relive your stories with us.

Thank you again

It's great that not only does a legend of our chosen sport still breath, he participates on this forum and tells tales of the real days of offshore racing. Congrats Brownie and thanks.

Brownie:

Congratulations on living this long.

It is an honor to be in the presence of one so honored, that the mere mention of your name leads your legion of fans to use the word honor albeit honorably.

I, for one, feel honored by this honor....... your honor.

T2rex, O partially grey one, the year that I won that race, I recall that you were working with Linder on the single hull catamaran.......................

Hey Brownie I didn't see you on Saturday. Did you get the boat out okay?

I thought I saw you on a motorcycle Saturday morning on the way to work.

Carl

BROWNIE 10-09-2007 01:58 PM

That was me on the bike hunting beavers. Gonna try the haul this week. I'll keep you informed...............

underpressure 10-09-2007 02:07 PM

If that bike has Ohio plates, I passed you just as your hat flew off in the black Excursion.

Call me if you need help with the boat.

Carl

BROWNIE 10-09-2007 02:20 PM

It does have Ohio plates. It belonged to Art Arfons (Green Monster). Thanks for not running over my hat.

Brownie, you amaze me; not only were (are) you in the thick of all the offshore stuff, you knew Arfons. There's another incredible legend!

Barry

That was quite the U-turn you pulled!! I looked and said "no way was that you" It was probably my jet wash that blew your hat off.

Art Arfons was a drag racer out of Cleveland/Akron right? Land speed guy in Bonneville too.

You'll love this. I am working with Dave Spangler on a quad Deep Impact (ex hooker header, another land speed guy) Who just got back from an attempt last week in Bonneville. I owe him a lunch at the Ft. Laud show.

Carl

Carl, my man George is coming down today to haul the boat. I will give him your number at the shop, and I appreciate your help.

Thanks for acknowledging my existence and including me in your exalted thoughts .

I must point out that you humbly failed to detail your part in perfecting the single hull catamaran. Many people don't realize that your wooden Cougars upon contact with rough seas....or even calm seas...automatically became two separate single hulled catamarans. Some of them also burst into flames creating a wonderful heat source for baking marshmallows...:p:p:p

Brownie, I just towed your boat over (I guess he forget the keys) and he is now trying to get the shfts out.

Carl

underpressure 10-10-2007 01:48 PM

He is hooked up and on the way back.

BROWNIE 10-11-2007 07:57 AM

You are DEFINITELY the man!

BROWNIE 10-11-2007 07:59 AM

T2rex, as I pointed out before, wood was not our first cholce for building 100 mph boats. First was soda crackers, next was tissue paper........................

If you used tissue paper as the outer skin, then a layer of soda crackers, and completed the sandwich with another layer of tissue paper............. I believe the result would have been stronger than simply using multiple layers of tissue or soda crackers alone..........:D:D:D
