Had to cut a sea turtle from a trap.

We ran the inercoatsal up to Venice and ran back south in the gulf , Whan some people on a pontoon boat flaged us over. There was the bigest turtle you have ever seen, He was all tangled up and fixing to drownd. When me and Bill pulled him up by the rope he took a big breth of air and just floated there till we got him loose. You dont realize how masive them thing are till you have to pull one up. I cant think of what would happen if you hit one with a drive, It take the hole thing off the boat.

Velocity Tom 10-14-2007 09:52 AM

It was in a crab trap. The way it was tangled The waight of the trap was pulling it under.
Running up the inside is real nice if you have time. there are a few no wake areas but nothing bad. we took are time and it maby took 90 min. Let me know when and we will plan a ride.

Good work Tom! Those big boys can weigh up to three or four hundred pounds.

Are you planning on joining the FMO run this weekend?

Who says us go fast guys don't slow down to help nature? We may be loud and sometimes obnoxious but we do care about the places we live and ride....good job Tom. I hereby reccommend Velocity Tom for the most prestigious "OSO Member of the month" award for his heroic efforts. All in favor.....?

Chuck

(I just came up with the award, but hey it could take off:D)

Yeah good one Tom! They're beautiful creatures those giant sea turtles.

RollWithIt 10-15-2007 05:02 AM

Way to go. Too bad you wont get credit by the media and politicians etc for doing that. Now if you would have run it over with the pontoon boat watching......

Frequency 10-15-2007 08:16 AM

Tom doesn't want the publicity. The crab trab owner would sue him for destruction of property and loss of income! :D

Good job Tom!

Velocity Tom 10-15-2007 07:03 PM

Ya I kept thinking , That turtle would have made a hell of a bowl of soop!

Reckless32 10-17-2007 10:39 AM

Great story. It's stories like these that needs to make the news more often not for personal publicity, but to set examples to others besides all the shoot'em stuff.
