Chrome paint technique any experience

I'm looking for another project. In the past few years the paint jobs have gotten to be outraeous, very hard to to some of the latest ones. I was thinking about doing something different. I have seen a new chrome paint process that supposibly works on anything. Anyone try it, see it in person or have any info as to how it will hold up in our environment?

Gino, looked and talked to a couple company's about it, was going to paint a boat chrome, takes a special sprayer and is a 3 part process. most of the work that has been done is on smaller items, it can be done but would have to be in smaller stages because of the steps, dry time, and overall time to do a boat.

I know some people that have used these products with great result just on smaler items.

That is cool. It would be awesome on a boat can you imagine the tan lines you could create in a 1000 yard radius:drink:

Darrel Waltrip ran a chrome car in '97. If I remember correctly, he said it took many individual pieces of chrome film that took many, many hours to apply to the body to make it look seemless.

I have seen a street rod done, however it had a more gold/copper look.

I would have to believe it would be a nitemare to keep clean in saltwater

Guardado recently painted a 50 Cigarette with the chrome paint. Looks like chrome until you clear it, then looks like an aluminum beer can color. They had the factory reps there, they tried many different things, as soon as you clear it it dulls. I must be cleared on a boat. Even though it was not as shiny as chrome it did look cool, I just think for a whole boat, it's too much, touch ups will be a nightmare.

I remember a few years back a company out of CA was selling a multi part system. If I remeber correctly it was VERY expensive !!!! Dave

i think im gonan paint my race car with that chrome paint. ive also been thinking about doing a boat with it. does any one have pics of that 50 cig?

Brad Zastrow 10-22-2007 04:54 PM

I think it would be a bit much on a whole boat. If it was an accent stripe that would be cool. Or are you thinking of putting fake chrome bumpers on the Mercedes boat? :p

customryder 10-22-2007 05:07 PM
