I have a TomTom. I really like it. Easy to customize (got my boat on the splash screen), and works great. They're building so much here in FL, that the map that came on it was missing a lot of roads. After speaking to them, they gave me a free update which improved things quite a bit. Check out http://www.tomtomforums.com/ for the real lo down.

Patrick, the tomtom xl is very easy to use, got it for my wife. We still haven't opened the instruction book after 5 months, bought at best buy or circuit city I think

Who is your cellular carrier? I think everyone has a service like this now. For $9.99 a month from Verizon, thier Navigator is everything and then some that a Tom-Tom is, and it's already in your pocket because it's in your phone.

Verizon works ok, but is difficult to setup and suspends when you get a call or text message which can be a pain.

Garmin nuvi is excellent, just more $ than tomtom, at least when I bought

Garmin

Garmin software updates are an ordeal for anyone
who has a life and other, better things to do.

If Tom Tom has free updates buy that.

I bought a $200 Lowrance since that whole GPS is just
a little more than Garmin software. At that price I'll buy
a new GPS every couple of years for updates just to avoid
the Garmin update ordeal.

No need to debate this subject with me as I own more
Garmins than anyone and have owned them longer and
used them for more things (automotive, topographic, marine).

Lowrance is my next prime supplier.

Lowrance topo and marine maps are way better than
Garmin too.

They all use the same GPS chip so the differences are in the software, maps and user interface.

Garmin 200 Nuvi works real well and the speaker is loud and clear. LOVE IT!

Garmin is good but i have to pick between these 2 since they are free.

have left over incentive points from work and need to spend them and close the account.

The garmin updates itself , if you can handle plugging in a usb cable to your pc , you're all good. The new lowrance stuff is good too , have to agree there.

My sister worked for Pfizer and got the Tom Tom for going over quota....long story short we went skiing over the winter and it worked great, much better than my Garmin Marine/Road gps.

I used the Garmin Nuvi in a rental car once....it told me to turn after I needed to turn..didn't like it.

The touch screen on tom tom unit is very easy to navigate I thought.

My brother got a Tom Tom on online for my dad for Christmas . He set it up and could not find any of the streets we all thought he was crazy until we figured out that my brother bought the one for Puwtek Tieland. He knew were all the Tie
restaurants were. Morel always read the whole add.
