Seriously, with all the high tech navigational equipment on those big mothers, it defies comprehension how something like this could happen... it ain't like they put that thing up last week. |
hmmmm hit at 2am then reported at 8:50 am by the crew......plenty of time to sober up! :D

A tanker in Houston ship channel ran over a shrimp boat killing some folks a few years back. 3 days later it docked on the East coast for the Coast Guard to board it to perform their investigation. All documentation was in perfect order by then! We have about as much control over ships as we do the rail system (ever waited 2 hours at a RR crossing).

Ummmm.....Do ya think it could have had anything to do with the reported 32' waves off the NY/NJ coastline Saturday....with 70 mph wind gusts reported on Martha's vinyard and cape cod???
They said it was 3-4' foot...it was that big in the bay saturday AM... |

Wow. If that's actually the case, then it could be a conceivable reason for the collision.
|
The weather may have affected the Tanker, but with the ocean as big as it is & the high tech instrumentation at their fingertips there's really no excuse for hitting the light station.
