Anyone have DIY for Winterizing???
Hey guys, does anyone have or can someone do a DIY for winterizing your boats. I have a 1989 Formula 272 w/t454's and I'm trying to save some money and do it myself and need some help on what to do. Thanks guys...

If I remember correct Wally started a how to winterize post in the tech part of the board. It was VERY good. May want to do a search.

Step 1: Put boat on trailer.
Step 2. Tow boat south until you see palm trees.
Step 3. Stop driving.
Jon is correct. Wally started a very informative thread several years ago that is still around. I also posted on a thread about how to modify the Self-Winterize Kit that you buy from Boater's World/West Marine; so it works a little better.

Off to a slow start but I'm working on it... Right now just got the LLC set up and now have to get the company account setup. Lots of stuff I've never experienced but I just learn as I go you know...How about you, hows business?

I Owned a 272 for 7 years and this is how i winterized the engine. the other items listed on the link are good to do too but not much detail was given on how exaclt to winterize the engine.
I run the boat on muffs for a while. to try and get some temp into the oil.
I then remove the thermostat and air breather.
if cold water ( antifreeze) hits the thermostat, it will close , possibly preventing antifreeze from entering the engine block. the fluid will by pass to the exhaust and out the tailpipes, giving a false indication of full circulation. that's why i remove the thermostats after warming up)
so afer removing the thermostats, and reinstalling the housing, I pull the water intake hose off the transom and install a large funnel into it ( fun job on the 272 requiring some double joints)
I get 6 gallons of rv (pink) antifreeze ready per engine ( remove caps and foil seals)
I prefill the funnel and wife starts the engine ( a warm engine assures it will stay running at idle)
at idle the seapump will pull the water as fast as you can pour .
on the last gallon, the wife also hands me the fogging oil.
on the last 1/4 gallon, I fog the engine and then she turns the engine off.
remove funnel and reinstall hose to transom and install breather
on to the next engine.
some hints
1)
don't forget to move the muffs and turn on water before starting the other engine ( don't ask)
2)
take the breather off the engine so you can fog it on the last 1/4 gallon
3)
tie a string to the inlet hose before removing from transom (don't ask)
4)
set the thermostats in the cup holders so you don't miss them in the spring ( or reinstalling them is ok after the engine is winterized)
5)
re install the thermostats spring down ( don't ask)
6)
change the oil as quickly as possible since the oil is somewhat warm and will siphon easier.
7)
don't forget to remove the portapotty and clean it ( don't ask)
