check with your agent. if you don't pay him like he is doing it for hire you may be ok. Check with your agent. If you give your boat to a person and pay them to haul your boat for hire and they total your boat your insurance company will expect the carrier's insurance to pay for it. If he has no cargo then you could be in deep do do

Just for clarification,

If I let a buddy haul my boat across country behinds his truck and he totals the boat, my boat ins. will not cover it? I don't recall the policy stating that I am the only one able to tow it.

Thanks

I think there might be a difference in commercial towing and personal towing of the boat. I would be more affraind of what your policy doesnt say than what it clearly covers....

I know my personal vehicle/boat insurance covers my boat when I'm towing it behind one of my personally owned and registered vehicles. My blanket liability/comp & collision policy and cargo insurance cover my boat if it is behind my truck I use for my 4 car Featherlite car hauler.

Everyone should check with their ins agent if you are going to use a friend instead of a commercial hauler.
