Question Are the NXT drive a direct replacement for Bravo XR

I have a friend that just put 1000 HP engines in his 37GTX with Bravo XR drives. Needless to say the drives have a very short life span. Now another friend working in a marine company over here told him that they can bolt off the Bravo's and transoms and bolt on the NXT transoms and NXT drives and he is ready to go. He claims that no other work is required, is this true ? I read when they first came out that engines has to be moved and transom has to be filled and location of the drives changed. Have they made changes so it is now a direct replacement ? I don't think so but it would be great news if it where true.

I'm pretty sure its a direct replacement. The engines stay put and the tranny is in the extention box.

But the NXT is a surface drive like the #6 right ? and the #6 requires the engines to be moved up and ofcourse forwards because of the tranny.

so maybe not forward with the NXT but I would still think it has to be moved up on the transom since it is a surface drive.

That's what I heard also but the friend that says it can be done can get the drives only through the company he works in.

It's a lot shorter than the XR so moving engines not needed and you can buy them separatly now but they are more than a number six drive. Last quote I had was 37500 as uposed to 35000 for the six drive.

"Unique drive design enables engine to be mounted in same location as Bravo drive applications." Is what merc says

http://mercuryracing.com/products/st...s/hp700sci.php

"The drive is robust enough to handle engines between 600 and 800 horsepower with an input torque rating of 800 ft-lbs." You may want to look into this though.
