LOTO 500EFI upgrades

Debating on what to do over the offseason. Sell, re-power or upgrade current power. If I re-power 500EFI's, has anyone has a good experience with anyone in the LOTO area? Don't have a trailer so I have to keep it in the area but am looking for a shop that has experience in doing this.

In addition, what can be done to get more juice from 500EFI without losing reliability (new heads, cam, etc??). I would also like to stick with my XR's, everything has been bulletproof to this point, knock on wood, but am getting the speed itch...

call John at Johns performance573 216-4151, he is one of the best at high performance applications, works on Jimmy Lees Skater, Bob Morgans boats, my Nortech, worked at Skater for years, he has a Awesome Motor guy.

I have a set of Whipple stage 2's that are about to come off of my 500 EFI's.... They made an incredible differance with no adverse affect on reliability or idle. I am going to a larger/ heavier boat so I am going to 598 or 632ci engines. The Whipples have less then 20 hours on them. Whipple claims 740hp I would guess it was more like 670-680hp. I will swap ECU's since I had Whipple reprogram mine. Systems are complete (might need some new hoses to reach on a differant boat) and ready to GO! I'll make someone a great deal...... Thanks, Rob

Not sure who to contact at LOTO.... but Innovation Marine in Sarasota FL has some good tricks for the 500EFI. Mine dynoed 550HP after they were done with it: milled and ported heads, cam, and computer program.

Go for the whipples, biggest increase without pulling your motors out, probably most cost affective too

I was on a 38 TG last summer with twin 900's that Gene had done... they ran strong. Until then, I'd never even heard of Lightning Performance. VB or anybody have any other information on his work?

There is Brad Smith at Bob's Pit Stop in Joplin. Probably too far away since you have no trailer, but he is top notch on big time marine engines. He turned my 454 MAG MPI into a 500 with no troubles at all. He is "nobody" here on the board. (417) 499-7855

First, I would come up with a goal of how much HP you want and then decide on the application that makes the most economical sense as well as dependability. The "I want more speed, i.e. hp" process pops up in all of our heads at some time. The real question is, How much work do you want it to be to maintain them? As stated the 500's can make a lot of power with some dependable cam and head adjustments to get you near 600 hp. Above that, you are definitely looking at more maintenance and less dependability. My good friend from St. Louis area used Gruninger's Marine out of pontoon beach for his upgrades on 502's to over 700hp and they were bulletproof for 3 seasons until he sold them. All he did was change the oils, fluids, and plugs. 618-210-4920. pm me with any questions. Hammer

Gene does good work. He did my 540s, although they are carbeurated.

I second Advanced.

They built and Installed the Whipples on my Gen V and even upgraded the heads with inconnel valves. They are turn key and have been for 2 years. We run 5 lbs of boost and they idle with no blower surge and behave perfectly around the dock.

My bravos do not like the power but if you are gentle coming out of the hole and easy when leaving the water running hard they will hold.

We should have our new plenum top done soon for the 500 and 525 EFI. It will allow more air flow into the engine with less restriction. Tyler
