Was there last week, flew from Key West in a sea-plane. It's about 75 miles west of Key West. Good Diving & Snorkeling, Fishing. There were a bunch of sailboats anchored around the park. People were camping on the island, not a lot to see in the fort, water was warm and clear. Great time.

If going by boat (70mi.) you can have big water on the trip during the winter. Need to bring everything you could possibly need from water to toilet paper and don't forget bud spray and thash bags ..need to leave with what you brought.
The seaplane trip is kool also. Great snorkling and check regs on fishing. Nights are unbelievable.

if your into history the fort is very cool(inside)if you are into architecture the fort is very cool period, the water is pristine out there, there was even a crocodile there a few years back, largest brick structure in the western hemisphere.plus a fun ride out in the yankee freedom.

Been out there 4 times. Did a tour of the Fort, some snorkelling. It is an interesting destination. :D

Once did a straight shot 120 miles from Marco Island then 70 miles to Key West. Total 190 miles on a Formula 419 that had a range of 200 miles. Ran in 3 and 4 footers to the edge of the reef and a front came thru kicking the seas up to 12 ft in about 15 minutes. :( Survived it tho. :D

Took our Helicopter there in 1990 - geat place - its where Lincoln's assassin was sent - also all the bricks came from BRICK TOWN New Jersey - a fact not many know.

Billions of fish around the old iron pier. You just need a mask. We swam to the close island and a large shark swam under us. I thought the Fort was great.

I don't think the 16 million bricks all came from the same place. I would guess the darker top rows came from NJ.
