Ideas for Paint 36 Skater

1 Attachment(s)
I don't really like the Paint on my Boat (paint was already on it). It is a 2006 36 Classic. I am considering just repainting the back half instead of spending twice as much to repaint the whole boat. Anybody have thoughts about this.

TexomaPowerboater 11-27-2007 04:47 PM

How long have you had the boat? Maybe it will grow on you.

I'd go all white. Its boring I know, but never outdated. Plus you can always put on some vinyl graphics and when you go to sell - it will be a blank canvas.

Sweet boat

36 skater

Its funny i just purchased a 36 skater and the boat is all yellow. It at least has a blank color to work with but I have been thinking about doing a complete wrap. The vinyl with the clear coat will last 10 yrs and cost 30% of what paint would.Assuming the hull has no dings why not wrap it and when you sell it the buyer can change it or keep it.

The designs can be endless and quite intricate.I like the paint as well but the skater has print through because of the epoxy and construction or at least some do.

I was referred yesterday to chris @ graphic effects about design ideas,he can design than email your local vinyl wrap guy the design and print it.I havent had the chance to call yet but it sounds like a good idea.

I agree...I'm one of the few who are totally tired of the tricked out paint schemes. The simpler the better. Mostly white with a classy spash of color here and there is cool with me. There was a thread posted recently of the Key West photos, the boat that struck me the most was the white Cig because it looked different than all the other kitchen sink paint jobs LOL!!

Oh BTW...killer boat!!!

Jigsaw89 11-27-2007 06:26 PM

Here's another vote for a mostly white boat with a classy spash of color! Do you really want your boat to look like the majority of those at a Poker Run or fast boat hangout?

Yes I have thought about mostly white with a small simple color or two. This will be nice in the Hot Summer Months on Lake Mead and Havasu.

Jupiter Sunsation 11-27-2007 07:47 PM

Paint MTI on it and it will be faster! :drink:

Funny......

The 36 Skater is a great boat and with the right paint even better... solid colors are great as they aren't trendy therefore never go out of style.

I don't find your current paint too bad but agree that he drawing is a more modern direction.

Strip Poker 388 11-27-2007 09:35 PM

One thing with a solid color it will show a scum line more than one painted up.Like when ya take a white boat out of the water from being in dirty water:D

satisfied1 11-27-2007 11:01 PM

I like the colors, but they are easy to see on the sand bars.
I had mine on sand bars most the summer due to fuel costs.
Great lookin ride, bring it to wisconsin .I bet you I could have a paint job on it for you around 2010.:D

Jigsaw89 11-28-2007 12:41 AM

You're right Strip. It's funny how my girlfriend always makes it a point to 'fingerpoint' the nice boat with the scum line... I just shake my head. With all the money we spend on this high dollar hobby of ours, you'd think that more people would take pride in what they have and scrub that grime off. To each their own.

I have always been a fan of clean simple and timeless colors and graphics. Also, it makes for less tense moments when rafting and docking.:drink:

I think doing the back half doesn't make much sense (based on that sketch anyway). An average person that saw the boat before and after would probably not even notice you changed anything.

Either leave it alone or do a drastic change.

Brad Zastrow 11-28-2007 12:50 PM

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing as bripar77 did in his sketch. There have been a few Cigs and Skaters done with that design and it looks very, very nice. For a modest fee Chris Dilling will design something for you.

Skater Paint

Painting half the boat of course cost just less than 1/ 2of a whole new paint. That's the reason to consider just half the boat being painted.
VettelT193 your probably correct just trying to see if it's possible to save some money.
Thanks Runninhot.
One of my reasons for repainting the back half is to be able to walk on the back half of the boat during our hot summer monthes out here. A light blue is better than the Purple and green. I am getting quotes of around $ 40,000 to strip and repaint the whole boat with a somewhat mild color scheme and a little less than 1/2 of that to repaint the back half only.

Maybe all white with 2 colors would be cheaper. Anybody know of any West Coats Painters they could recomend??

Send it to VINCENTS CUSTOM PAINT in LOTO and he'll will take care of you 573-369-3355 , the light blue on the FREEDOM US 1 boat is awesome you may like it and we're gonna have some of that blue splashed on ours after the winter in TEXAS

Coolerman 11-28-2007 03:30 PM

Didn't TAOD paint Freedom US-1?

StraightJacket 11-28-2007 03:31 PM

Just go spend about 500.00 on some Black epoxy primmer and piss off the whole Skater nation. Who cares what it looks like if its fast

40FlatDeck 11-28-2007 04:06 PM

I having my 40 completely stripped right now and am deciding on something to go with. I think I'm staying with 4 or 5 colors and pretty simple, not much shading so it's easy to touch up.:drink:

40FlatDeck have you found a painter? Any quotes from Painters?

Well, when I got the boat there were alot of paint fixes, plus, around the engine compartments there were/are stress cracks. I have been able to find out the current paint job is like the 4th one so there is ALOT of paint. We decided instead of fixing the paint for the 25th time we would completely strip it, fill all the cracks and start over with a paint scheme we like.
I am having Wes from Trident Boats do all of the work. First, he is a good friend and I completely trust him, and two, he can fix the boat with his epoxy infusion which is *****en.
If you are looking for a complete job and the painter is going to de-rig the boat for you, I would be ready for a 35k-55k job, at least that is what I was finding.:angry-smiley-038:

40FlatDeck where do you normally run the boat? Do you ever get to Havasu or Lake Mead?

Definetly like the sketch. The existing is nice, but I like the blended look better.

Sydwayz 12-03-2007 05:34 AM

We have a division of Active Thunder; INXS Motorsports; that will design and paint anything that you can get to Pompano Beach, FL.

Give me an idea of what you want/need done via PM, and I'll get back to you.

The boat is a 2000. We got it from Scot Conrad. The original paint had "Never Late" on the sides. We go to Havasu 5, 6 times a year and we did a poker run this last August on Lake Mead. Be sure to sign up for Desert Storm this year.
