Quad engine Deep Impact
3 Attachment(s)
We finally finished with the engine prop set-up and now have what we feel are the best all around set-up for the boat. It was truly amazing to run at 78-79 mph and be able to hear the stereo, even in an open boat.
The final set-up required custom motor mounts, custom tie bars and labbed 29 blades. 3500 45 32 1.4 4000 55.3 44 1.26 4500 63.2 60 1.05 5000 70.1 79 .88 wot was 79-80 @ 5,800 rpm Test day was 82 degrees, 1/2 foot chop, 1/2 fuel (boat carries 420), 2 people, about 10mph wind Quad four stroke 300 Verados on a 36 foot open, weighing close to 15,000 lbs :) This set-up might sacrifice a few top end mph, but the cruise is nuts! |

sorry, I meant to type quad engine, not triple
should have put: RPM MPH GPH MPG 3500 45 32 1.4 4000 55.3 44 1.26 4500 63.2 60 1.05 5000 70.1 79 .88 |
great looking boats, I saw you guys on Sat at the raft up, I was hoping you were heading our way, but looked awesome from a far.. Nice big set-up..great speeds also. Jeff

One of those with 3 of the new Yamaha 400's thats coming out next year would be pretty COOL !!!
|
Buy 3 yamahahas and put 3 AMERICANS out of work.
|
That is awesome MPG for a quad boat...even a triple boat. My Fountain 38TE get right around what you are getting with quads. I do not know Fountains quads fuel numbers though. A Fountain 38TE runs 87mph with quads...gotta get to work!:D:drink:
The boat with out the top looks cool. I wonder how many people looking for a boat like this would go that way though? Absolutly beaustiful boats though. I might be down your way in the next few weeks. If so I will stop in and say hi as I'd love to see these boats in person again. |
finally a real baller performance CC
Sweet ! just out of my price range! Bryan |

Sweet! And I thought my brother in law's Midnight with trips was a nice ride.......

We did the boat with no top for the magazine shoots. They love having no top because you see people in the photo instead of a random arm or leg. Plus we can install an arch or top anytime. It is on the way to the Hard Rock today for the Winterfest Black Tie gala in Ft. Liquordale.
The Fountain that runs 87 mph is a very light boat, lighter than production models (we were on it at the factory when we picked up the raceboat), two stroke engines (noise and oil) and would not have the same comfort in bumpy seas. We elected to not chase the ultimate top end with a light boat, but to build something heavy for the ride and comfort in the real world. As a side note, one of my customers ordering a triple 36 with L-shape seating and an oversize top changed his order to a four engine with no top after I sent him a picture of the boat so he could see what a full hull color looks like. (it was almost a $50,000 bump too. |
why did you do the motors white ?
|
Nice.....very nice.........
just curious, customer decision or executive decision on rigging with w/ 4 strokes versus two stroke 300 opti's? |
The motors are painted white or whatever color to tie the boat together. If you saw the same boat with black motors it would look three feet shorter. This way they look part of the boat not an add on. And Mercury doesn't dig it either!
It is an option and you can have them black. Enforcer, The world has gone four stroke. That is what customers want. I can rig with 300 Opti engines but when you hear how quiet the motors are at idle, at speed, and then you don't need to carry oil, why would you put Optis on. This is a high end custom boat and I would be willing to bet that near 99% would prefer the four stoke. It does make for some interesting challenges because of the custom tie bar and motor mounts we had to make. We know the Opti boat would be quicker but most will give up the few mph for the lack of noise and convience. I was listing to the stereo at 75mph, try that with Opti motors. Carl |
Not trying to argue and totally not dissin' your boat but the word is the 87mph quad 38TE Fountain was a stock hull built with the same molds and layup schedule as the boat I have. They did spend lots of time on set up and props. I personallt have been on the Hooter quad boat with 4 people and 3/4 tank of fuel running 83 with 250's so 300's proped and set up low fuel no electronics is doable.

Under pressure,
again very nice boat I do like the painted outboards:cool:. We will have to agree on disagreeing with four stroke vs. 2 stroke,. As many comparisons have been done with weight ratios, cost of maintaining a 4 stroke vs. oil for two stroke, people I have spoke to that have owned both and are trying to go back to two strokes and as you mentioned performance and efficiency. I do agree with nosie levels. However IMHO if you are going to strap on quads I would assume that the buyer is looking for speed. And as far as higher end boats I hope you are not assumig that 2 strokes are cheap or lesser of an engine.!!!!!! As you are well aware 2 strokes make your boats fly!!! Triples Verados more understandable on a boat like yours.......but if the customer want's 4 strokes they always gets what he/she want's. Again, Very nice boat:drink: not trying to take anything thing away from it at all. Just trying to understand why the 300 optis are not being used more. Tony |

Mark,
Told her your birthday wish. Paulies card was off the hook and he drove all night to get down. Tony, No offense taken. Please understand that I can build with whatever you choose and will happily do it. You are correct that ultimate speed would be two stroke, but almost every buyer except the balls to the wall guy has gone four stroke because of the noise and oil and sacrificed a couple of mph. Buyers today are four stroke crazy. I have a 36 Cuddy triple 250 Opti's with a custom jackplate here and it will run about 72 mph. The boat runs awesome but the two guys I am working both want to pull the motors and put on 4 strokes. Something a lot of people miss is that some hulls like weight in the back and the Deep Impact is one of them. Remember this boat was designed as a four stroke boat and sits well with scuppers above water even on the four engine. Some like the Midnight are inches under water even with three motors. Mike, Boat may be from the stock mold but it is a potato chip in weight. Dennis stepped on the gunnel at Fountain and was amazed how much it leaned. They kind of smiled slyly. Either way it is not even close to 15,000 lbs. I saw the boat next to me in the rough and he was always out of the water coming back from Key West. One of my customers in a triple 36 Deep Impact was also next to me so it was a good comparison of both. Anyways whos racing! Maryland, I was only saying the noise at that speed, not that you could't get there with two strokes. My buddy who ran with me in the quad loved everything about it and the ride but he missed the big block noise. I told him we need more stereo power and a great cd of big block exhaust! I love the noise myself as anyone who has heard my Cigarette will tell you. Carl |

We had the Quad midnight blue at the Gallion from Thursday to Sunday mid day. Too bad you missed it. I had my number on it for people to call and test ride. I also had two customers down with their boats, one a 36 San Mateo triple 275 open (he just ordered a quad) and a Bahama Blue 36 triple 275. All three were at the Gallion, next to my Cigarette.
We actually paced one of Stu's runs from Gilberts to Key West on Thursday. I have them at the marina in Key Largo and we will be at Collins Ave during the Miami Boat Show next to the yachts. Carl |
Actually I gave the keys to my buddy Mike because I was dying to put time on the Cigarette. I work 6 days and use it maybe three or four times a year. He drove it out with a couple of my friends. I was next to him but couldn't cruise at 70 so he beat me there by a little. Sorry we missed you.
We got into this wierd Patron water, man it was deadly! Next year I am bringing bottled water. Carl |
Pics dont do the red boat justice at all, I've seen it in person. BAD AZZ
|
It now lives over at Sanibel Yacht club. Delivered today.
I am closing the deal on the Midnight Quad boat (going to Miami Beach area) and finishing the build on a black one and an orange one hopefully to deliver them by Christmas.. Thanks for the compliment on the Ferrari Red boat. |
