BoatMe, there is the fatal flaw in your arguement ....
You can't stand in Mike's SHOES.....
Unfounded lawsuits should be thrown out, looking to get compensated for a life altering act of negligence from another party is entirely different.
Here's a pretty simple test ( and Mike I hope you don't mind me using you as an example, but we all know your situation)
Ask Mike if he wishes the "accident" never happened?
Ask the driver the same question.
I'll bet you both answers are the same.
Now which one had the power to control the outcome originally?

Arguing that monetary compensation for pain and suffering should be abolished is midlessly insensitive and downright moronic. The only conceivable cause for someone wanting another to not be compensated for damage done by another can only be some hyper-avarice run amok. Either that or having been on the receiving end of one of these judgments. A thousand years ago, it was an eye for an eye- literally. We've civilized since then but the concepts are still valid. What other way is there to compensate someone who's been harmed?
I'm not suggesting that juries don't make faulty awards- the woman and the hot coffee at McDonalds is one. Yet I find no similarity there. The other might be someone being awarded a hundred-million dollars for pain & suffering which is an example of justice gone wrong.
What we really need is professional jury panels. The only way you'll ever see a "jury of your peers" is if you're really bored at work or not bright enough to dodge it.

I hope Mike posts pictures of before , during and after his accident. He didn't get rich after his accident but he deserved something to make his life easier after the terrible accident he was in. Those of you that have not gone through what he did have no idea.
