Default Lake Superior in November..

Anyone for boating on Lake Superior in November?

These photographs were taken in November 2006 aboard Misener Steamships MV Selkirk Settler as she crossed Lake Superior in typical November weather.

Calm water

Those are some great photo's, most of us have no idea just how rough Lake Superior can get until now. I'd be ****ting my pants if I was on the boat.

I hope there's a washing machine on board to get their underpants clean.

It can go wicked in a lot less than that, depending on the speed of weather fronts. I've been on all five of the Great Lakes, and have seen calm conditions turn to downright nasty in less than an hour. Superior is the largest, coldest, and deepest, with ocean-like conditions the norm, but Lake Huron has claimed more ships to the bottom than all the others combined.
For the few of those east or west coastal guys who don't think this water is ocean-like, come and give it a try sometime.

The storm pictures were taken during a North Atlantic storm February 13, 1987 on an eastbound passage from Tampa, Florida to Ghent, Belgium with a load of phosphates. The pictures were taken by Capt. George Ianiev, who was the ship's Second Mate at the time.

Great pictures but not from Lake Superior.
