Teak

Have not been around in a while, hopefully I will get some time this year to get the boat out, in the meantime I am working on some projects and needing Teak. Anyone have their old teak platform that they want to get out of the way? I am trying to use reclaimed lumber and figured this may be a good start.

you can email me at [email protected] or just post here.

Thanks

Steven

Good idea.
On the right vintage boat, I really like the teak. There was a period there where no one wanted to have anything to do with the stuff, it was the first thing removed when "updating the boat".
Now, my boat would look ridiculous without a little teak and the tall lifeline.
I know it's not the look for everyone, but I love it.

So, what ya working on??
Don't forget to post some pics!

Right now I am building myself a custom speargun from the teak platform of my Formula. I want to make some outdoor benches and patio furniture for my new home. I just have to wait for the power to start back up so I can get back to work on the project.

Triming the wood to dimensions for laminating my stock

Here I am just clamping some teak to get the dimensions for my gun.

I will then cut and laminate the wood with west epoxy, let it sit in the corner for a couple of months then cut it to its final dimensions, add the trigger, rout the track and set the bands.

It does not matter if its been sitting for a while. My teak looks terrible but cleans up nicely. Here are two pieces that looked the same until I hit one with the sander

Anyone have an idea where I may be able to find some?

Cool project!

Do you have any boat boneyards close by??
Junkyard'ing can actually be fun, and you can sometimes find things you never knew you wanted.

No boneyards close by that I know of. I figured there would be lots of old damaged or replaced teak platforms on here...

I have a teak swim platform in great shape I would gladly trade for a tube platform. :D

Wish I had something for you. If you get a custom tube and want to sell your paltform let me know.

Here are a couple of pics getting ready to laminate the stock of a new speargun.
