Mark you stated you are leaving down there in a while. Are you going back? I will probably plan a trip in mid Janurary to check things out. If you are available I would be interested in looking into what the place has to offer.
I'm kind of planning on leaving just after Christmas. But I am hoping to stay another two or three months. I won't know for sure until the last minute. A few big deals would keep me here till spring (hint, hint people). :D |
Just as a weather report, my truck thermometer said 91 today.
It's supposed to get cold this weekend. |
89 down here.. Had to cancel the backyard bonfire we are going to have to welcome winter.. Kids are unamused...
|
Just to tell you the sh:t here it is 18 degrees and snowing. Tell me again how it sucks there. Better yet anyone want to trade houses for a couple months.
|
I would give up all of this for a bunch of rude people.

we get to tailgate here with several college towns not far and the bucs games in tampa 1 hour away, although everyone roots for the visiting team it seems |

There are trees down everywhere you look here. Lights on mostly all back on after 5 days. And most of this happen after I started this thread.
|
We got ten inches of snow here in kankakee last night. I ran my snowblower for about three hours today digging myself and a couple of neigbors out.

Its 12:30 here and I just looked and noticed its 56 degrees in Lauderdale. To all of you freezing there just to let you know its 47 degrees colder here. Roger I don't own a snow blower but I will one up you. I use a Case uniloader to move mine I will give. In true terms there is no element of cold. Its the lack of heat.

Hey Paradox, You're lucky as I recall a lot of really cute co-eds at Bradley. I graduated Northwestern where some were pretty but not the easiest to party with...

After researching Florida and all of the reasons to go or not to go I found out about redtide. Is that a big deal or has it been blown out of control. I have never heard of it before and suprised me no one on here mentioned it.
|
I'm still waiting for job offers from anyone. That was the what this was all about wasn't it? I am look'n myself, thats why I have been reading this, Not the weather and or people, I have all that up here in the frozen central N.Y.:(
|
Red tide was a bit of a deal off Sanibel Beaches and a few others this year. Only seemed to be a problem for the vacationers - unless you can afford a $4mil. to $20 mil. home on the beach. It's nothing to be too concerned about.
I'd be more concerned catching pheunomia (sp?) shoveling all that snow up North. :D  |
Cosmic it dosen't seem like there is many jobs there. It does seem like there is some deals on houses on the west side. Not as much on the east.

kinda how the attittude is now in my town after the storm from 2 years ago... |
Open72 I worked in Lake Charles after Rita cleaning up the city. Everyone welcomed us in the better areas and it seemed like in the poorer areas they acted like we were trash. In the better areas people would offer us their houses and food for being there. Several times in the poorer areas I told them we was only allowed to cleanup at the curb side and I would go beyond a little but that was not good enough for them. They seemed like we were against them when we was there to help.
|
la has attitude...i live in a town called mandeville , we now reffer it to as manhatten... we were gracious to have all the help to clean up , and belive it or not , they are still picking up debris here in my town , mainly trees that felled on right's of ways and clearing out water ways now... still , 2 years later..
yes , la has nice people but we have our share of azzholes too... |
I was really suprised how nice Lake Charles is. I had no idea what I was getting myself into and it turned out a good town. Most of the people was great but there is always a few. I just learned from working in the different areas where most of the hostility came from. We have azzholes in the Midwest also. We also have crime here. And maybe I am no different then everyone else but I try not to be negitive.
|
as in everything it is what you make of it, i hope i never have to move back where it is cold, for every rude person i usually meet a couple of nice ones, plus once you have your circle of friends anyplace is a good place, the best thing about the dolphins/marlins is you never have to wait in line to use the restrooms or beer tender,i will eventually move towards cape coral(more golf courses than KW(1))

Hey Mark, I've got a RE question for you. Would you mind PMing or emailing me so I can ask? Thanks...D |
I agree with you Bobcat. Its that way everywhere. There are good people everywhere. I find Florida friendly when I do there but maybe its because I am a tourist. I didn't realize just how bad the economy has gotten on the west side. About all you see are short sales. Mark, are very many of the offers on short sales being taken or are the finance companies holding strong. Are there any owner finance opportunities or lease purchases going on? I would need to move a couple places up here to swing one outright.

In regards to Short Sales, no not many offers will be taken. You have to look at what they owe - NOT what it is listed for. Only expect to get a small amount off of what they owe. Plenty of owner-finance opportunities - if you don't mind over paying (bailing them out). It is sometimes hard to give you advice without knowing what price range you are in. There are many variables. As I've said before - starter type homes, wait - higher end waterfront, buy. |

Hey Mark, I've got a RE question for you. Would you mind PMing or emailing me so I can ask? Thanks...D I'd be happy to help, etc. I seem to have PM turned off? To make it easier at the moment, here is my work e-mail: [email protected] Just put OSO in the subject line. :D |

Oh, always put OSO in the subject line so I know it is a brother and not spam. |
I've lived in Florida over 40 years, and never have gotten sick from red tide. And I've always lived near the water.
|
Its amazing how many different reasons people come up with why they are not happy with where they live. I like where I live and the friends I have. If it wasn't for the cold I would never consider any move. Its 18 degrees right now and it does not feel that bad tonight even though it sucks. No snow and the wind is not blowing but that will change fast. Still I think positive.

Been following this thread but I don't think you ever said where you were living now. |
Missouri
|
Missouri is a good cheap place to live and we have the Lake of the Ozarks. They are having the Shootout again this year. Missouri has never really thrived and the economy stays pretty steady. Housing is affordable and there are jobs for the ones that want to work. Jobs in gerneral are not top paying. And the weather sucks. The joke is here if you don't like the weather stick around it will be different tomorrow.
