Race boat hits yacht
Just watching country fried home videos and shows a V-bottom during a race losing control and hits a sportfish. Looks to be a Donzi ZRC anyone familiar?

Back many years ago, one was hit during the KW race.
|
That was the motorcycle guys in Ft Myers. They spun and hit the deck of the southernmost checkboat. Deniis Sigalos was one of them.

I believe it was the "Ocean Spray" Scarab with Dennis Segalos and Bruce Penhall.

You are correct..... July 96 Sarasota race, I was in my buddies Purple and Yellow 38 Scarab, we were the Pace Boat for the weekend of the races, we had the Head APBA official on the boat with us. We were on the North part of the course trying to deflate a run a way Orange Turn Buoy when the call came threw the radio about the accident, within seconds we had a knife to the buoy and shoved the remaining rements of it in the cabin and we were heading to the scene. If memory serves me correct two girls were hurt when the Transom of the Ocean Spray boat went across the Hattress bow after it had spun out in the turn. The Sport Fish was a turn boat and was anchored in the corner. If anybody wants to do a search, the accident was caught on film and was on the front page of the Sarasota newspaper the following morning. Patrick |

Maybe it has happened more than once? Looks like different suspects here, but this thread needs pix.
Anyone wanna clue us in on the details of this sad story? |
Jayboat, that boat looks to be around late 80's vintage.

Anyone wanna clue us in on the details of this sad story? It happened in the early 70's and the owner was a rich oil guy from Texas, Roger Hanks, that had several boats named BLONDE. On one of the early BLONDES, in a race he entered in Key West, he was looking for some crew guys to help him in the race and asked Don Aronow to give him the names of some good guys. Don gave him the names of Sonny Miller and Bobby Saccenti ,who were both working for him at Cigarette. Long story short, they won the race that day and a guy by the name of Doc Magoon came second. Pretty stiff competition. Both Sonny and Bobby, went on for more victories in their own designs, winning the very first ever BENIHANA race in Point Pleasant with a 44 foot MSV design boat. |
