Decision by first of year on LOTO Shootout

Let's hope one of the 4 proposals is accepted.

Would be a shame to lose this event.
I just emailed the reporter for an update.

I hope it works out. Best lake weekend at the lake imho.

chevyzq8 12-17-2007 08:38 PM

If this falls by the wayside it would be a huge disappointment for the lake area. It's one of the few weekends were there are more powerboats than cruisers.

And one of the few weekends MP's F-4 makes it off the lift for some serious running! :drink:

Would be a shame to lose this event. Sure hope one of the proposals is accepted and look forward to a SHOOTOUT in 08:evilb:

This was posted this AM, looks like we should have a decision by the end of the week:

Three presentations went before the Missouri State Water Patrol Monday in Osage Beach City Hall, all vying to be the host location for the Shootout. A presentation was made for the Horny Toad at the 7.5 MM, the Dog Days and Topsider joint location which would hold the race south of the restaurants in the Lake of the Ozarks State Park, and Captain Ron's Bar and Grill near the Hurricane Deck Bridge. The water patrol will decide who will get the regatta permit for the race by the end of the week. A fourth location in Osage Beach scheduled to present did not attend the meeting.

Von Bongo 12-18-2007 10:56 AM

Three applications were filed to host the popular time-trials event that lets participants race against the clock on a controlled course.

Come on!!! It's been a 19 year annual event and you can't even get it right in the local rag!!

On the up side I am glad to see an effort to continue the event, it still amazes me that the Chamber or Midwest coast or some other organization isn't at the forefront.

On the up side, from shooters we could only see part of the course, I was amazed at the photo in Powerboat this year of the saturday raft up, that has to be by far the largest I have seen and almost double the number of boats from just 5 years ago.

baywatch 12-19-2007 05:08 PM

I just read on another site that Captn Rons was announced as hosting the shootout for this year. Should be quiet up there at the 34.5 MM. It will be interesting to see how the raftup and the parking works.

I'm excited, It looks like I can still take that week off work now.

This was reported on 1150 KRMS website. They broadcast the shootout.

Yeah I saw that too but where ever they are it would have to be a remote feed so I don't see what the issue is on that to be honest...

Then again I've never seen it live we've always been out on the lake during the race....

Looks like we'll have a little longer boat ride than before but it's all good as far as were concerned...:ernaehrung004:

THANK YOU!

It's refreshing to see a positive attitude toward this decision. Damn finicky boaters... :grinser010:

No TV coverage doesn't bother me a bit. Should be a great course for big numbers to be posted.

Maximus 12-20-2007 07:44 AM

What type of water can we expect at these mile markers. Specific please (protected, open)

The same or calmer than the old location. Probably won't get the rollers coming in quite as much. The direction the course is running is downstream though and that is where 90% of the boat traffic will be coming from.

Didn't this event raise a ton of dough for good causes and pump a grip into the local economy?

fountain4play 12-20-2007 12:43 PM

Sounds like the people associated with the Capt Ron's did their homework in the proposal they put forth.

I believe most of the proceeds directly generated from the event will be divided between several charities and will bring a lot of revenue to the lake area businesses no matter what part your on.

Here's a link to the Water Patrol's press release on the event.

Notice it says the race course is now 2 miles in length?

Without seeing a course layout, I would think the additional length is for run-up and shut-down areas for safety purposes.

http://www.mswp.dps.mo.gov/News/NRDe...p?ID=N07070225

The old Regatta permit listed it at the 23mm on the WP website and it went all the way past the 21mm.

Makes sense. So it should remain a 1 mile standing start run.

I wouldn't think they would be tweaking the original format of the race , more than likely they would be running it the same way.:ernaehrung004:

It used to raise a large percentage of the budget for the lake's fire and rescue. The lake has developed a lot more since the Shootout first started and the tax base and budgets have gone up significantly. The shootout still gave a good chunk of money, but in comparison to the current overall budgets, the amount was minimal.

As far as contributing to the local economy, I would say it makes a lot of money on what would normally be a relatively slow weekend. I'm not sure if they have ever done a study to see what kind of dollars are generated overall and in tax revenues because of the event.

Fast enough water conditions that you'll want to turn your fuel pressure and N2 to the max !!! :evilb::drink:

Brad Zastrow 12-20-2007 03:07 PM

Larry Goldman and I had a lot of fun running the MTI's this past summer in the Shootout. Really happy to hear the run is a go for next year. It was because of the shootout that many people would visit and end up buying property in the Ozarks. I think it is the finest boating area in the country!

Cool. We ducked into a nice little restaurant in the cove just south of there last year during the fun run. Nice people and a great area. It was pouring rain , and they weren't open yet, and they took great care of all of us.
