whats the deal with this boat?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/33-Tu...QQcmdZViewItem

reliable setup?
who did the transformation?
whats the deal with the trolling motors on the kplanes?

Sea-Dated 12-25-2007 04:57 PM

Trolling motors on each K-Plane and one on each side of the drive. I guess the 4 electric motors are for docking or manuevering in close quarters.

Or, they have a lot of problems with the turbine and need a way to get back to the dock when it dies.

Dont know the boat, some have even used a small out board. When rafting or just needing to make a small move it is alot harder to spool up than to start a big block and then just turn it off

fabricator 12-26-2007 12:09 PM

What's with the name? I don't get it.

SC404COUPE 12-26-2007 04:50 PM

I would say since the boat is in South Louisiana...that Marine Turbine Technologies probably did the conversion. Turbines are reliable if you can carry enough fuel. The electric motors are more than likely for reverse.

It's probably a worn out helicopter motor. Incredibly expensive to overhaul. I'm guessing thats why it's in a boat and not an airplane

Baja_man 12-27-2007 09:53 AM

So what is the range on a boat like that at a cruise speed?

TexomaPowerboater 12-27-2007 12:16 PM

I understand that they can be very reliable and last A LOT longer than a gasoline or diesel engine. Kind of like commercial aiplanes made in the 70's still in use today.

Stupid single engine owner ....

all you need is an oar and a stupid friend on the boat with you.

rjr 12-27-2007 02:42 PM

All the jets from the 70's have been repowered. Efficiency and noise pretty much required it

Fuel burn? An F-4 Phantom could cary 2200 gallons of gas (internal & an external centerline tank) and under the most economical conditions it would last a little over 2 hours. Jets lose efficiency at low altitudes so a turbine engine at sea level would not be very efficient.

Sea Land had turbine engines in their ships. I understand they sold them to the Navy during the first gas crisis in the 70's

He can keep the beer. Just don't run out of Reb Bull & Vodka.:drink::drink:

And make sure the cell phone is charged.

BAJA WILL 12-28-2007 03:26 PM

Cool boat, as for burning fuel, wonder how much a pair of 800 hp motors burn at WOT.

Biggest problem I see is finding Jet A or Kerosine at the Marina:D

Probably was supposed to be "Gettin There"...as in a destination.

Perlmudder 12-29-2007 01:36 PM

or maybe its alluding to the idea that he started with a small boat, wishes to have a biggger one, and this is like the middle boat.
