Was thinking about doing something different this year and heading inland for vacation. Always wanted to visit Lake Powell, pack up the family, rent one of those 50' house boats and go exploring. Anyone know the best rental places at the lake? What areas of the lake are best to spend the night, we'll be there 7 - 10 days probably a different place every night. Also what's the best time of year, was thinking June but the water temp may be too cold?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We went a couple times when I was going to college in Colorado. We Rented our house boats from a marina at the bull Frog part of the lake (might have been Bull Frog Marina). We always went late september early October (Offseason Rates were like half that of normal rate). The temps were still in the 90's and the water was warm. you also could see snow on the mountains in the distance (pretty cool).

Very Dead that time of year though.

It's extremely desolate!!! Not a gas dock around the bend by any means. Was a great experience and quite scenic.

Great place to boat. I'll be there mid june. The weather is very nice that time of year, not 110 degrees yet. Rent from bullfrog marina if your coming from the east or wahweap if your coming from the west. Gas at dangling rope marina 41 miles from wahweap, 45 miles from bullfrog. The new houseboats have 40 gallon fuel tanks for the toys. Its hard to have a bad time.

Go there late August every year and it is just beautiful..... 10 days on a time share on a 75' boat. I think there is only 1 rental concessionaire on the lake maybe out of Antelope Point which is the best place to go out of. Be prepared for some very interesting weather and enjoy.... You will literally see more stars in one clear night than you have seen before in your entire lifetime.

We rented a new 23 foot cruiser that topped out at 55 MPH, tossed our tenting and camping gear into it.

It took us hours to get to Dangling rope, then another couple of hours to get up to our destination. Tented on the shoreline, stayed there for a few days, traveling in the fast boat to different sites every day.

I would recommend beaching the big houseboat somewhere in the middle of the various hiking spots you want to visit, then use a towed fast boat to make day trips to those spots. Those that don;t want to go, can stay with the big boat.

Get a tourist map and some books on what to hike and do at Powell. Fantastic place! Wish I was going again!

The best place that we vacationed .The boating is so different and calm! Very little traffic and great skiing /tubbing for the kids .We also rented a 65 ' houseboat and 2 families for a week .
Pack plenty of good food .Theres NO place to make reservations !!No cell phones ,No nothing !!Just great views and water sports are plenty to do !!
Have a blast .We will going back this summer in late july .

There are too many places on Lake Powell to list as far as camping/beaching areas for the houseboat. Obviously alot of people have there favorite coves/canyons. My only suggestion is not to try and move the houseboat everyday. It's a chore and sometimes an art to beaching and un-beaching a houseboat. And remember, the lake is very large/long so it takes a while to move around in the houseboat.

I live in Arizona and I go to Lake Powell every year. I never get tired of it because every year I see something new. I've been going for 15 years and don't think I'll stop any time soon.
