Boat stuffing

1 Attachment(s)
This has been out there for a couple of years now on our DVD

It comes from our poker run (SOTW)

We were headed toward these guys in another boat when i saw it happen
When we got back to the docks our camera guy told us he had caught it on film

This is why life jackets are important

This Boat handled the onslaut of water Well (Way to go Eliminator)
This is why going faster is sometimes better than slower in the rough stuff (They were not up to speed)

WWWHHHHEEEWWWW..... That MTI almost got ugly!!:D

VelocityMark 01-02-2008 06:45 AM

The guy with the Eliminator needs a little more up button, along with a little more speed.

RonS 01-02-2008 08:50 AM

What year was that??

RunninHotRacing163.1 01-02-2008 09:07 AM

c_deezy 01-02-2008 09:38 AM

If memory serves me the hatches were also open?

I love it they say the same boat over and over. :Whatever:

Look at all the HUGE boats that the ocean has taken :angry-smiley-038::evilb::party-smiley-004:

Westcoast 01-02-2008 10:39 AM

At least that wasent salt water....the horror

tblrklakemo 01-02-2008 10:46 AM

That eliminator was looking for trouble trimmed like that. The passengers are lucky they didnt get washed over....lots of water.

The way that boat was flying he must have had the tabs almost all the way down and a bow tank full to the top.

If you boat on the Great Lakes, you're going to occasionally get water across your deck. It's like a bathtub on some days- no predictable wave spacing many times. This one was probably avoidable though.

Mark 01-02-2008 11:03 AM

Don't forget about how nasty Lake Erie gets too.

MOBILEMERCMAN 01-02-2008 12:49 PM

Looked like the drives were all the way in, just pushed it down in the hole. At least he wasn't running fast and over his head.

I learned what a water spout was that day as well- ah... what a ride!!

MTI- is that Speed Racer on a test run?

Geez - anytime someone brings up the Great Lakes, it almost turns into an APACHE thread.
Yes, the Great lakes can get rough, and Chris is absolutely right about having waves coming out of nowhere.
I've experienced it - running along in heavy snotty water, and all of a sudden there is just nowhere to go. Stuff.
Agree, that one looked avoidable.

Back4More 01-02-2008 05:58 PM

Yeah, You'll earn you wings quick in water like that.

Hatches were not open. Best theory is the boat grounded out on a shoal, took on water from that point, and then two thirty footers came over the stern, stuffing the bow and down she went.

CigDaze 01-02-2008 06:21 PM

I never understood the whole Lake debate with some saying lakes can't become nasty.

I consider Tampa Bay to be a Lake-like in many ways, being about 40 miles long and nearly 10 miles at its widest, with only a small opening at the south end, yet most will agree that it can be anything but calm on some occasions. I've seen 8 to 10 footers out there on quite a few occasions.

Steamin Rice 01-03-2008 11:21 AM

Pretty cool videos - How can I get a copy of your DVD?

Strip Poker 388 01-03-2008 12:29 PM

cool vids, If thats from a poker run video ,That would be a good one to have:D If that happened in my Hustler the windscreen would be gone

I bet they had water up the nose:eek:

tamburello 01-03-2008 09:06 PM

We went out with a bunch of 18 and 22 Donzi's to watch the poker run boats arrive. That was a wet ride in my 18:crazy::crazy:. We played in the waves a while and headed back in to White Lake to watch the SOTW guys arrive and dry off.

turbo2256b 01-04-2008 05:14 PM

How quickly the Great Lakes can turn to snot is unreal.
Some areas of Florida were the Gulf Stream all most touches the coast is bad too. Smooth water can turn in the blink of an eye.

mrhorsepower1 01-04-2008 06:00 PM

The guys in the back seat didn't see what was coming, they got seated by water.:D

DMOORE 01-04-2008 09:46 PM

There are lakes.....and then there are the GREAT LAKES. In reality they are inland oceans. Intereting , I was just watching the Discovery channel and they said , if the Great lakes were emptied, it would cover the entire US in 6 FT of water. They hold something like 20% of ALL the fresh water in the world. That's some serious volume. They definatly deserve respect.

Darrell.

MOBILEMERCMAN 01-04-2008 09:57 PM

I have been to couple races that were canceled or black flag on Lakes Erie and Ontario. I don't recall any in an ocean canceled for being too rough.

Check again, they reinvestigated the wreck. There was a really good story on I think the Discovery Channel.

http://www.navweaps.com/index_tech/tech-080.htm

So I would say it sank because of crew error

How about sending some of that excess water here to California? We're running a little low.:D

Im from WI...actually Racine area...The worst water ever I experienced on a continual basis is the Great Lakes. For years once to twice a week the water was never cooperative..maybe twice a year for some unforseen reason you would get some nice rollers for jumping or possibly a flat day where you could raft up...otherwise just nasty chop, from usually the same direction, a few holes here and there...I thought it just sucked...I'll take my gulf coast, relatively smooth, except when a storm comes out of no where. Jeff

Macklin 01-06-2008 08:35 AM

I just showed the first vid to my wife. She asked it that was the Great Lakes. I asked her how she knew that. She said it is the only place that gets rougher water than the lower Chesapeake Bay. :D

mwdill 01-06-2008 01:32 PM

yea, that whole stuffing thing is not fun! :D:

Did you notice the driver turns around immediately to check on them?

Ive been knocked back in my seat a few times. Its funny when you have someone who hasnt experienced it before!
