No more boat locks?

Anyone who has ever been through a boat lock will appreciate this 'new' technology:

Pretty neat, must have been hard to sell.

Perlmudder 01-03-2008 05:22 PM

seems like it would be pretty darn expensive to retrofit current locks so they could use that tecchnology. sick idea though.

Mentalpause 01-03-2008 06:36 PM

Until they figure out how NOT to break that that big barge apart - not sure anyone will care.

Not sure why any current large lock would retrofit.

The locks that lead to the Great lakes. If you used this system, along with regulation of ballast water, we may have a fighting chance with stopping foreign sea life from entering our Fresh Waters. With the exception of the water in the "container" for the vessel, There is complete isolation of the water from each side of the lock.
