Garmin or Northstar

I have narrowed my search for a new unit down to a Garmin 5008 or a Northstar M84. Does anyone have an opinion on one or the other.
Thanks

I have the Northstar 6001i...I went Northstar because of the Smartcraft interface and the Sirrius Sattelite weather. The Smartcraft interface doesn't work half the time...sets off alrams, tabs are disconnected becasue they don't read properly. Have had a problem with one of the lake charts and they have been looking into it for three months now with no answer (can't zoom in without the unit locking up). The Sirrius iweather is cool but if I had to do it again I'd go Garmin.

What have you had before ? I stick with Garmin really just because I have had them since the early 90's and know all their lingo and how they set them up. Buy the time you get in the boat it will be outdated like all electronic crap.:D

Check it, but I have heard Northstar can not show speed above 99.9...if thats an issue.

Garmin at twice as much $$ as the Northstar...tough call.
