Default Engine Rebuilds need advice

Hi lads.

I posted about 2 months ago that I was having engine troubles with my cig top gun.

I recently imported it from the usa.

It had two new Dart M 509 blocks 650hp each.

While using them I found i had blow by and oil coming out of the breathers and super high oil pressure.

I've pulled them out and the mechanic has said I need two rebuilds, and new pistons, oil pumps, the engines to be honed and bored, rings and probably more but by that stage it became "blah blah blah blah".

Firstly, in the usa how much do engine rebuilds usually cost? HOw much are JE pistons for 509 blocks?

If I was to buy engines from the usa how much would i be up for, for similar engines? Or to buy bigger engines how much? I have no idea whatsoever on this so the more advise the better.

thanks.

The XR's should be ok if you treat them right. I wouldn't put any more power to them than the 650hp that you have now. Any Bravo style drive is going to pushed to its limits with 600 or more HP and your boat is heavy also.

Unless they are trashed, I would imagine it would be cheaper to rebuild than replace. Lots of good manufacturers. Bullet Engines, KE, Sterling, Cobra, PRI, Pfaff, just check the links section under engine builders.
