We were told that the 850's in the Nortech would need to have the valves adjusted, and the pulleys replaced every 25-35 hrs. Hell the idler on that thing is over $800 my cost. You can replace the bearings in the idlers - and save quiet a bit of $$.
Has anyone else heard this - I know the valves have to be done - that's given on a solid lift motor - but what's the deal with the pulleys?? Only 25 - 35 hrs? I can see all hell breaking loose should one fail and sling a belt at 5600 - and it's better to be safe than sorry.... So would you just do the bearings? Or complete pulleys? The motors were just freshened up last year at Nortech.

We did a factory tour at Nor-Tech in Ft Myers and they were telling us 150hrs on the 850s is what is typically seen but thats a little high compared to what i have read on here

It is interesting that Mercury doesn't use the .937 Jesel solid roller lifter system that the Bush and Truck teams all run. If the Jesel lifters could get you another 25 hrs out of the larger dia/wheel lifter Jesel package, the extra $2,000 an engine would be cost effective...cheap?
There should be some inbetween style lifters that should be better that the .842 merc's.Unless merc already uses a higher quality?What about the dia of the cam?

The .904 lifters, 680 street roller cam, and top of the line isky springs will run forever. And if you want more power, just run an efficeint blower and turn the boost up.

Jay! As soon as we get a new boat you will have to come with us on a fun run if you would like. We would offer on the Formula but it tends to be unreliable at times and would hate to have it break down on a fun run or even go into alarm, which it seems to do every 5 minutes

Trust me, no one making 250K a year is buying a new 850/1075 boat nevermind maintaining one. I would venture to say you need to be banging down in excess of 750K to be able to comfortably enjoy a 850/1075 boat with annual 50K rebuilds. Even at 750K you won't be banking any money assuming the lifestyles that go with a big dollar rides (cars, houses, spending). A guy with a 47 OL GTX 1075 boat won't live in a 2K sq foot ranch and drive to the marina in a pick up!

Buy a 39 Nortech with their 650's run about 100mph on 89 oct. gas, run 2 seasons before rebuilds. The boat feels bigger than the Cig and a little faster but you can't go wrong with either Just my 2cents.
