So what about Sterlings? What would be something besides mercury that would make good hp and be realiable? The last boat had 525s and they did not impress me(thanks to CMI). Next boat I want will be smaller and only have 2 engines. I want a 38-42 v-hull that will do 125-135. What would everyone say would be the most reliable motor that runs on 91 octane that will not have to be rebuilt like these mercurys being discussed? Or am I just dreaming about a reliable big hp motor?

If you can buy 1075's and # 6's or surface drives and pay for the fuel those bad boy's eat - you can afford the maint. IMO.

Gotta ask - what boat do you want to put them in??? Can't be a 382 (one of my personal favorites). Come on, let's hear about the new toy they will be in!

Trust me, no one making 250K a year is buying a new 850/1075 boat nevermind maintaining one. I would venture to say you need to be banging down in excess of 750K to be able to comfortably enjoy a 850/1075 boat with annual 50K rebuilds. Even at 750K you won't be banking any money assuming the lifestyles that go with a big dollar rides (cars, houses, spending). A guy with a 47 OL GTX 1075 boat won't live in a 2K sq foot ranch and drive to the marina in a pick up!

dreaming.................... a 700 boat will tag 100 in a 38-42 but you will need a 1075 plus to get 125+++. Go see Potter engineering in Sarasota, his power screams in Nortechs.

Looking at gettin rid of the 382 for a Cig 39. Want to run with the big boys now. No way 250k can afford a boat with 850's or 1075's. I would think you would need a lot more than that
