I think people find interests in what they are exposed to in life and growing up. I got into boating because friends who I hung out with (who just happened to be white guys) got boats and dragged me to the river and I fell in love with it. My good neighbor, who happens to be black, never went boating. I took him to the ocean on my '31 Scarab a few years back and showed him the "Pegged" video and he started planning on getting a boat almost immediately. He moved away a while back and had a couple of kids so i'm not sure if he got a boat yet.BTW here is my friend and here is me and my wife.
