Post Anyone want to send stuff to some Spec. Ops guys fighting our war on terrorism?

My friend is an officer with one of the Spec Ops groups and was just deployed last week. I'm sending him a care package later this week or early next. I'm going to include both a FDNY and NYPD hat. I saw the tape of the commandos coming out of the hospital in Kandahar after killing the Al Quaeda guys today and our commandos were all wearing Yankees caps and I Love NYC buttons. I know he doesn't have something like that and thought it would be cool to send him those hats.

Anyone have any other thoughts of something that would be cool or that you'd like me to send? He has asked for a copy of a DVD with the Sopranos 3rd season, but that isn't out yet. I'm going to call HBO and see if I can get one, but that probably won't happen. He also asked for a little light that clips onto a book, as he's sharing a tent with 12 others and they are working in a 24 hour rotation for operations so someone is always asleep and he can't read without waking everyone else. I'll include a bunch of junk foods for the guys but have to leave out the porn as he's in a Muslim country and it's forbidden - not exactly certain what country he's in. Doesn't matter though, as his wife threatened to beat the crap out of me if I send him porn...

Miller - tell me when you are sending it. Some NJPPC Hats on some of our SPEC OPS guys would be pretty cool

DaveP, that's very cool of you.

The package will go out toward the end of the week or on Monday. I'm trying to stagger it with his wife and some other people so that he gets a package a week and not 5 on one day and then none for a spell. So, I'm supposed to wait. When would it be good for you to get me some hats? How do you want to give them to me? Let me know.

DJD, you got any copies of the pictures left? If so, it would be cool to lay some out with descriptions of what they are and maybe a map of the area and send that to the guys.

Thumbs up

Miller - Someone just showed me a little "headband light" that the touring rock band techies use backstage when they have to troubleshoot stuff in the dark. The neat thing about it is that it uses LED's instead on incandescent bulbs, so it lasts about 150 hours on a set of 3 AAA's. Cool reading light. I'll try to get the details. They're about $45 each, though....

OK - here's the link: http://www.altrec.com/shop/detail/12148 I'ts about the size of a pager, and the headband retracts into the housing. Ultra cool.

Here's a cheaper version with a traditional headband: http://www.altrec.com/shop/detail/11061/9

Better price ($41.50): http://www.tirelesstrekker.com/menus/headlamps.htm

Apparently, there are night-vision filters for these things, too..

Thanks Chuck. How's life? Can you spare a Inday car? Maybe they can catch up with Osama a little easier, since he appears on the run...

Talking

Nah, fresh out of Indy (CART) cars - we went to IRL this year (Hell froze over). Rick Mears was a certified bad-ass in off-road before he started driving Indy cars. He even won Pikes Peak one year. I'll give him a ring and see if he wants to come out of retirement...

That would be nice. I'm sure he could help track down some of the Al Qaeda losers who are running to Allah...I wonder what their reaction is when we kill them and go to HELL instead of Heaven. I bet that sucks, huh???

Yeah - Instead of them getting 70 virgins in heaven (How does that fit into Islam? ), when they get to hell instead, it will turns out that THEY will be the "virgins" for 70 other "inmates".

You said exactly what I was thinking, C. I bet that pisses them off that they were stupid enough to listen to the scumbags who recruited them, huh?
